Is The Uzbekistan Tour Right for you?
Roadtrips
There are a couple of long travel days across the desert or into the mountains. The scenery is epic, but if you hate road trips or get antsy in a car, those hours could feel long. Pack anti-nausea meds if you get car sick, because these drives are unavoidable.
Very Focused on Culture, History, and Architecture
This trip is packed with ancient architecture, Silk Road legends, and visits with locals. If you'd rather be beachside with a cocktail or avoid museums and historical sites, you might not fully enjoy what this tour is all about.
Modesty Matters
You don’t need to cover your hair, but in places like Bukhara and Samarkand (and especially rural areas like Ukhum village), it's best to wear clothing that covers shoulders, cleavage, and knees. Think loose trousers, midi skirts, and breathable tops with sleeves. A light scarf can be handy—not for religion, but for sun, dust, or visits to religious sites.

Your Uzbekistan Itinerary
Day 1 - Welcome to Uzbekistan

Arrive in Tashkent, a city where old-world charm meets modern energy.
Your journey begins in Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s capital and cultural heartbeat. We’ll pick you up from the airport and get you settled into your hotel, a comfortable and stylish home base with everything you need to recharge. Whether you arrive early or late, today is about adjusting to the rhythm of the city.
Depending on your arrival time, you can relax at the hotel or take a gentle stroll to get your first glimpse of Tashkent’s mix of leafy boulevards, Soviet architecture, and lively street life. In the evening, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner—a chance to meet your fellow travelers and get a taste of what’s to come (hint: expect warm bread, aromatic herbs, and maybe your new favorite dumpling).
Meals: dinner
Day 2 - Tashkent Uncovered
From Soviet grandeur to Silk Road secrets, explore Uzbekistan’s multifaceted capital.
Today we dive into Tashkent’s layered personality—from its leafy parks and bustling bazaars to unexpected underground beauty. We’ll start with a visit to the Khast Imam Complex, home to ancient Islamic manuscripts, including what’s believed to be the world’s oldest Quran. From there, you’ll explore Chorsu Bazaar, where pyramids of spices and pomegranates spill from vendor carts, and Uzbek grandmas hand-roll noodles behind the scenes.
But perhaps the most surprising part of the day? Tashkent’s metro system, a true hidden gem. Every station is a unique tribute to Soviet design—think marble columns, chandeliers, and mosaics worthy of an art museum.
We’ll slow things down in the evening with free time or an optional local experience. You’re just getting started, but Tashkent has a way of getting under your skin.
Meals: breakfast and lunch

Day 3 - Into the Heart of Ancient Khiva

Walled wonders, green noodles, and a night of shared tradition
This morning, we hop a short flight from Tashkent to Urgench, then head straight to Khiva—a city that looks like it was pulled from the pages of an ancient epic. The old town, Ichon-Qala, is a maze of mosaic-covered mosques, dusty alleyways, and towering minarets, all wrapped in massive clay walls that have stood for centuries.
We’ll stay right inside those walls, in a cozy boutique hotel that was once a madrassa (yes, you’re sleeping in a piece of history). After settling in and grabbing breakfast, we’ll wander the winding streets with a local guide who brings the stories of Khiva’s khans, scholars, and silk traders to life.
Tonight, you’ll step into the home of the Abdullayev family—descendants of the Khan’s secretary—for a hands-on cooking class featuring Shivit Oshi, Khiva’s iconic bright green noodle dish. It’s a joyful, homey evening filled with laughter, stories, and seriously good food.
Meals: breakfast and dinner
Day 4 - Crossing the Red Sands
A journey through the vast Kyzyl-Kum Desert and into the storybook streets of Bukhara
It’s a long, cinematic kind of day—windows down, desert stretching endlessly in every direction, the Amudarya River sparkling like a mirage when we stop to stretch and breathe in the silence. This is the ancient trade route that carried silk, stories, and secrets across Central Asia.
By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Bukhara and settle into a boutique hotel tucked inside the old city walls. The evening is yours: stroll through centuries-old trading domes, sip tea under the mulberry trees at Lyabi-Hauz, or just let the rhythm of Bukhara wash over you.
Meals: breakfast
Drive time: approx. 6 hours

Day 5 - Bukhara’s Thousand Stories

Minarets, markets, and the kind of beauty that lingers
Today you’ll step into the living legend that is Bukhara. Follow your guide through dusty stone archways and turquoise-domed mosques, past bustling bazaars and into the echoing halls of ancient caravanserais. You’ll stand beneath the mighty Kalon Minaret, once called the “Tower of Death,” and take in the artistry of the Mir-i-Arab Madrasa, where intricate tilework meets centuries of scholarship.
We’ll also visit the Ark Fortress, a royal stronghold with layers of history and myth packed into its crumbling walls. By evening, the city slows into golden hour—you’re free to wander, find a quiet courtyard for dinner, and watch the stars rise over a city that feels timeless.
Meals: breakfast
Day 6 - Women, Wisdom & Uzbek Wonder
Stories, craftsmanship, and an unforgettable night under the stars
Today is all about connection. We’ll meet with local women who are reshaping tradition through entrepreneurship—textiles, jewelry, embroidery, and more. As we explore their workshops, you’ll see not just beautiful craftsmanship, but the pride, skill, and strength behind every piece. We’ll also sit down with members of the Women Entrepreneurs Union for an honest, inspiring conversation about what it means to be a woman in modern Uzbekistan.
In the evening, we gather for a traditional dinner at the Nodir Devonbegi Madrassah, where music, dance, and folklore fill the candlelit courtyard. The atmosphere is pure Silk Road magic.
Meals: breakfast and dinner

Day 7 - Into the Mountains & Into the Heart of Village Life
From Silk Road splendor to slow living in the Nuratau Mountains
This morning, we trade Bukhara’s bustling charm for the stillness of the Nuratau Mountains, where life moves to the rhythm of wind, goats, and shared meals. Our journey takes us to Ukhum village, a peaceful hideaway where tourism directly supports local families—and women are at the center of it all.
You’ll be welcomed into a family-run guesthouse, part of an award-winning network where nearly every homestay is named for the woman who runs it. After a home-cooked lunch, stroll the village’s winding paths, sip tea under fruit trees, and settle into a way of life that’s rare and real.
In the evening, you’ll cook side-by-side with your hosts, preparing plov with wild mountain herbs and vegetables straight from the garden. This isn’t just dinner—it’s a memory you’ll carry home.
Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Drive time: approx. 5 hours

Day 8 - The Road to Samarkand

Bazaars, blue domes, and stories carved in stone
The day begins with the smell of baking bread as you watch it pulled fresh from a clay oven—crispy on the outside, soft and steaming inside. It’s the kind of quiet magic you’ll remember long after the trip ends.
Then we journey to Samarkand, one of the most legendary stops along the Silk Road. After settling into your hotel and sharing a leisurely lunch, you’ll spend the afternoon walking through Registan Square, where towering madrasas shimmer with blue tiles and centuries of history.
You’ll visit Gur-e-Amir, the mausoleum of conqueror Amir Timur, and continue to the grand Bibi-Khanum Mosque before ending the day wandering the colorful aisles of Siyob Bazaar, where locals shop for everything from pomegranates to prayer rugs.
Meals: breakfast
Day 9 - Blue Tiles, Star Charts & One Last Toast
A final look at Samarkand’s soul before we return to Tashkent
This morning begins with a quiet walk through Shah-i-Zinda, a sacred hillside lined with some of the most intricate tilework in all of Central Asia. It’s a place of reverence and beauty, where every mosaic tells a story whispered across centuries.
Next, we visit Ulugbek’s Observatory, where a 15th-century astronomer mapped the stars with mind-blowing accuracy, long before modern science caught up. Then we head to Konigil village, where artisans still make silk paper by hand, just as they did on the Silk Road.
In the late afternoon, we board a high-speed train back to Tashkent. After checking in at the hotel, we’ll gather for a cozy farewell dinner—one last meal, one last laugh, and the kind of toasts that only come after a journey like this.
Meals: breakfast and dinner
Train time: 2 hours

Day 10 - Until Next Time, Uzbekistan

Departure day—take the memories with you
Wake up slow, linger over breakfast, and take a final moment to absorb everything you’ve seen, tasted, and felt over the past 10 days. From mountain homestays to ancient cities and quiet desert roads, this was no ordinary trip—it was a story you’ll keep telling.
Check-out is at 12:00 PM. Airport transfers are on your own today, but your guide is happy to help arrange one if needed.
Meals: breakfast
Where You'll Stay
There are no forced single supplements ever, we’ll match you with a fellow traveler. If you want more privacy, single room upgrades are available.
We don’t just pick places to sleep—we choose places that add to the story. On this tour, your accommodations are as unforgettable as the landscapes themselves. From elegant boutique hotels hidden in the heart of ancient cities to a peaceful mountain homestay where dinner is shared around the family table, every stay has soul. Expect cozy charm, thoughtful touches, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel truly welcome. Whether you’re sipping tea in a shaded courtyard in Samarkand or waking up to birdsong in the Nuratau Mountains, these places will stay with you—long after your suitcase is unpacked.

Rabat Boutique Hotel, Samarkand
Tucked into a quiet corner of Samarkand’s old Jewish quarter, this place feels more like a tucked-away guesthouse than a hotel. It’s got that faded-glory charm, with traditional touches, leafy courtyards, and staff who will happily make you tea just because. You’re just a short walk from the heart of the city, but it’s peaceful enough that you’ll sleep like a stone — even after a day of Silk Road wonder.

Ulugbek’s Homestay, Nuratau Mountains
You’ll sleep soundly in this quiet mountain village guesthouse, warmed by home-cooked meals and the smell of wild herbs drifting in through the windows. It’s technically a homestay, but feels more like an Airbnb in all the right ways — private, comfortable, and thoughtfully cared for. The family hosts welcome you like you’re one of their own, and dinner is shared around their table as stories are passed like second helpings.

Ichan Qal’a Premium, Tashkent
If you’re going to start and end a trip somewhere, this is a solid place to do it. Grand without being flashy, this hotel mixes traditional Uzbek flair with serious comfort — think tiled courtyards, big beds, and a sauna to recover from that long flight or wind down before the next one. It’s peaceful, convenient, and a total contrast to what’s waiting out in the mountains and desert.
We match you with your most compatible roommate
We get it—sharing a room with a stranger can feel like a gamble. That’s why we’ve partnered with a professional matchmaker and psychologist to create a bespoke roommate matching quiz, designed to pair you with someone you’ll actually click with.
Whether you’re an early riser or a night owl, a social butterfly or someone who values quiet time, our quiz helps ensure you’re matched with the best possible roommate. And if you prefer your own space, you always have the option to upgrade to a private room.
No stress, no awkward surprises—just a trip made better by great company.

Loved this tour!!! Our guide Komal was AMAZING. It would not have been as fantastic without her. Every spot we went to was wonderful and I appreciated all the smaller stops that coincided with the main attractions (eg marble shop before the Taj Mahal). I’m speechless as to what a unique and beautiful experience it was. I can’t wait to go back!!
