Why Choose SoFe Travel?

Built for Solo Women

Every trip is designed specifically for solo female travelers. That means no awkward third wheels, no feeling like the odd one out—just instant community, shared values, and support from Day One.

Space to Breathe

We build in solo time, always. Want to wander a market alone or skip a group dinner for some quiet? Go for it. Prefer a travel buddy? There's always someone ready to join you.

No Forced Single Supplements

Forget the extra fees. Our roommate matching quiz pairs you with a like-minded traveler, or you can upgrade to a private room if you prefer your own space.

Is The Nicaragua Tour Right for you?

This is an active, adventurous trip

You don't need to be an athlete, and nothing is extreme, but you should be in decent shape, comfortable being active most days, and up for getting sweaty, and sandy. If you're looking for a slow, poolside kind of trip, this isn't the one.

Our timeline is dictated by nature

This is off-the-beaten-path Nicaragua, not a resort circuit. Some of the magic depends on nature, the turtles hatch when they hatch, the crater glows when it glows, so a few moments can't be guaranteed. Roll with it and you'll have the trip of a lifetime. Need everything locked and certain, and you'll be frustrated.

Your Guatemala Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Nicaragua
Managua-Malecon-Park-Nicaragua-02

Airport pickup, transfer to Managua, and a welcome dinner.

You’ll land in Managua, the capital, where our team meets you at the airport and gets you to your hotel. Settle in and shake off the travel. Tonight the group comes together for the first time over a welcome dinner of authentic and delicious Nicaraguan food.

Meals: dinner

Transfer to León, beach time at Las Peñitas, and a mangrove boat tour

This morning you head to León, Nicaragua’s beautiful colonial city and its old intellectual and political heart. Drop your bags and make for the coast at Las Peñitas, where the afternoon is yours, lunch by the water, feet in the sand, nothing on the schedule but the beach.

Later, you’ll board a small boat into the Juan Venado nature reserve, winding through the mangroves while your guide points out herons, birds, and reptiles along the way. You’ll reach a wild, empty stretch of Pacific beach, and if the timing’s right, this is where you help release baby sea turtles, cupping the tiny hatchlings and watching them scramble toward the waves. It depends on nature, but your trip falls right in hatching season.

Meals: breakfast

Nicaragua volcano boarding

Hike and board down Cerro Negro, explore León, and dinner with someone who lived its history

You’ll drive out to Cerro Negro, one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, and hike about an hour up its black slopes while your guide explains the geology under your feet. At the top, you gear up, get a quick lesson, and then board down the volcano, sitting or standing, as fast or as careful as you like. It’s loud, it’s wild, and it’s one of those things you can’t quite believe you did.

Back in León, clean up and grab lunch, then set out on a walking tour of the city, the churches, the markets, the great cathedral (the largest in Central America), and the rooftop views from the top of it. León is the country’s intellectual and revolutionary heart, and the history is everywhere.

Tonight, that history gets personal. You’ll share a dinner with a former guerrilla fighter, who tells you their own story of the revolution that shaped Nicaragua.

Meals: breakfast and dinner

Ferry to Ometepe, a local lunch, and a bike ride along the lake

Today you trade the Pacific coast for the water. You’ll drive to the port at San Jorge and board a ferry across Lake Nicaragua to Ometepe, an island formed by two volcanoes rising straight out of the lake, with both cones watching over you the whole way across. A typical lunch at a local spot when you land.

In the afternoon, you’ll explore the island by bike. You’ll ride out to Punta Jesús María, a sandy spit that reaches into the lake with volcano views on both sides, then on to the Charco Verde reserve, a green lagoon tucked in the forest and full of birds. Pedal as far as you feel like, the support vehicle is there to scoop you up whenever you’re done, and carry on to your hotel on the beach.

Kayak Nicaragua

Paddle the Istián River, then cook with a women’s collective on Ometepe

You’ll kayak the Istián River, a slow, winding paddle through the heart of the island, with herons and jacanas in the reeds, monkeys in the trees, maybe a caiman sunning on the bank, and the two volcanoes rising on either side of you.

In the afternoon, you head to a women’s cooperative near Moyogalpa, run by local island women. They’ll walk you through their land, the gardens, the medicinal plants, the views out over the volcanoes, then pull you into the kitchen to cook a real Nicaraguan meal together. You’ll sit down to eat what you made and spend the afternoon trading stories with the women of Ometepe.

Meals: breakfast and lunch

masaya Volcano Nicaragua

Ferry back to the mainland, Mombacho by zipline, and Masaya after dark

A big, unforgettable last full day. You’ll catch an early ferry back to the mainland and make for Mombacho Volcano, riding a truck up its flank to the top. Up in the cloud forest you’ll walk the crater trail, misty and green, with sweeping views over Granada and the lake, keeping an eye out for howler monkeys, sloths, and the little salamander found nowhere else on earth. Then the fun part: a canopy zipline, eleven lines and seventeen platforms, flying through the treetops. Lunch after, then on to your hotel above the Apoyo Lagoon.

As the sun drops, you head to Masaya, an active volcano the Spanish once called the Mouth of Hell. You’ll stand right at the rim of the crater, and on an active night you can see the lava glowing red far below. It’s a short visit by design (the crater’s alive, so time at the top is limited), and it’s a genuinely unforgettable way to end the trip. Back to the lodge for a farewell dinner together.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Breakfast, goodbyes, and check out.

Breakfast together one last time, then off to the airport whenever your flight leaves. Until next time.

Pacaya Lodge y Spa

Pacaya sits right on the rim of the Apoyo Lagoon, a crater lake, with your room and private balcony looking out over the forest to the water below. After a week of volcanoes and early mornings, this is the reward: an infinity pool over the lagoon, a spa, and a yoga deck.
