TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

TRAVELER LOVE

"The party at Bran Castle, the Viscri Village tour and lunch with the family, working with women tour guides/families/businesses was the highlight of this trip for me. Daniela was amazing and truly the best tour guide I have had. She was very personable, funny and had such a vast amount of knowledge and love for her country. This was my favorite group of people that I have been in a tour with, we all had similar interests and views on life, the group fit together perfectly."

Is The Romania Tour Right for you?

Accommodation expectations

We’ve picked beautiful, family-run guesthouses that have room service or fancy extras. These places are cozy, often tucked into villages where time moves a little slower.

What You’ll Eat

Think homemade and simple meals: soups, stews, fresh bread, cheeses, and local produce. Romania is big on dairy and meat, so while we can accommodate vegetarians, options are a bit more limited for vegans. \

Your Romania Itinerary

Day 1 - WELCOME TO Bucharest
women on Bucharest on women only tour of Romania

Land in Bucharest and meet your group over dinner

You’ve made it to Romania. Your hotel is just a few minutes from the airport, so you can drop your bags, grab a shower, and shake off the flight without a long transfer. Try to land by 3pm so you have time to settle in.

At 6pm, meet your guide and the rest of the group in the hotel lobby, then head out for your first Romanian dinner together. Think hearty stews, grilled meats, and your first glass of local wine. Get some rest tonight. Tomorrow, you’re headed into Transylvania.

Meals: dinner

Peles Castle, Prejmer fortified church & a night walk through Dracula’s birthplace

Peles Castle, Prejmer fortified church & a night walk through Dracula’s birthplace.

This morning you head north into the Carpathian Mountains to Sinaia, home to Peles Castle. Built for Romania’s first king in the late 1800s, it looks like it was pulled straight out of a fairytale, with turrets, carved wood, stained glass, and over 160 rooms. It was also one of the first castles in Europe to run fully on electricity.

Next stop is Prejmer, the largest fortified church in southeastern Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site. When invaders came, the whole village moved inside its thick walls, where hundreds of small rooms are stacked like a medieval apartment block. You’ll have lunch nearby at a local restaurant.

Then it’s on to Sighisoara, one of the last inhabited medieval citadels in Europe and the town where Vlad the Impaler was born. After dark, your guide will lead you through its cobblestone lanes, past the Clock Tower and the house where Dracula’s story began. The details of the night walk are a spooky surprise.

Coffee with Roma women, lunch in Viscri & on to Brasov

This morning you’ll visit a Roma community near Sighisoara. The women will welcome you into their village, share coffee, and talk openly about their families, their traditions, and what everyday life looks like for them. It’s the kind of conversation you’d never get on your own, and it’s one travelers tell us stays with them long after the trip.

From there, you’ll drive into the rolling hills to Viscri, a Saxon village that has barely changed in 900 years. Horse carts still clop down the dirt roads, the houses are painted in soft blues and yellows, and the fortified church on the hill is a UNESCO World Heritage site. King Charles loves it so much he owns a house here. You’ll sit down to a home-cooked lunch at a local family guesthouse.

In the afternoon, you’ll continue to Brasov, your home for the next two nights. Check in, wander the old town, and rest up. Tomorrow is the big night.

Meals: breakfast and lunch

Brasov walking tour, the Black Church & a night at Bran Castle

Spend the morning exploring Brasov, a medieval town tucked beneath the Carpathian Mountains with the BRASOV sign perched on the hill above it Hollywood style. Your guide will walk you through the pastel squares and narrow lanes to the Black Church, the largest Gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul. It got its name after a fire in 1689 scorched its walls black, and inside you’ll find one of the biggest collections of Ottoman rugs in Europe.

The afternoon is yours to rest up, because tonight is the reason you came. After an early dinner in Brasov, you’ll get your costume and makeup done and head to Bran Castle, the fortress that inspired Dracula’s castle. Tour its winding halls and secret passages after dark, then step out into the Royal Park below for the most famous Halloween party in Europe. Dance, drink, and stay out until 4am if you’ve got it in you.

Snagov Monastery, back to Bucharest & a farewell dinner

After a late night at the castle, take it slow this morning. Grab a coffee, trade stories from the party, and board the van back to Bucharest.

On the way, stop at Snagov Monastery, a small church on an island in the middle of a quiet lake. Legend says this is where Vlad the Impaler was buried, with a simple stone marking his grave in front of the altar. Whether he’s really there is still up for debate, but standing in the candlelit church, it’s easy to believe.

This evening, check into the InterContinental Athenee Palace, a grand old hotel in the heart of Bucharest that’s hosted royalty, spies, and film stars for over a century. Then head out for your farewell dinner together at a local restaurant and toast to the trip.

Meals: breakfast and dinner

Breakfast, goodbyes and check out

One last Romanian breakfast before it’s time to go. You came for Dracula’s Castle, and you’re leaving with a costume you’ll never wear again and a phone full of photos you’ll be showing people for months.

Meet Daniela

YOUR GUIDE FOR THE TRIP

Meet your guide, Daniela, a walking encyclopedia of Romanian history with a wicked sense of humor and a heart of gold.

She’s been guiding for more years than she’s willing to admit, and there’s not a castle, legend, or backroad she doesn’t know like the back of her hand. Daniela is the kind of person who will make you laugh out loud one minute (probably with a wildly inappropriate joke) and hand you tissues and homemade snacks the next. She treats every group like family (sometimes whether you like it or not) and her stories will bring Romania’s complicated, magical, and mysterious past to life in a way no textbook ever could.

Quirky, warm, and just the right amount of chaotic, Daniela is one of the many reasons travelers fall in love with Romania and come back for more.
