Imagine the wind in your hair as you whiz over Wadi Rum sand dunes for views one better than the last. Dramatic rock formations jut out of the desert sand and create an almost other-worldly backdrop for a perfect sunset.

Notes
Though Jordan’s desert dry heat can send the temperatures soaring, especially during the months of May through September, it is an easier heat to manage than heat with humidity. That being said, we’ll do our best to stay out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day and visit sites either in the early morning or evening hours. At major sites, you should still be prepared with a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.
From March to November, there’s some relief from the heat. Temperatures can dip quite low and there’s also a greater chance of rain. Be sure to pack layers and rain gear if you’ll be visiting during Jordan’s colder season.
Proof of travel insurance is required before joining day 1 of any Meetup Tour. International flights are not included.

Day 1
Welcome to Amman!
Airport pickup & welcome dinner
Welcome to Jordan! Our driver will meet you at the airport with a sign and a smile to bring you to the hotel to meet the rest of the group. We’ll pick you up from the Queen Alia International Airport in Amman anytime today according to your arrival time, but we recommend arriving before 4pm. In the evening, your guide will take you to dinner at a local restaurant for your first introduction to delicious Jordanian food. Meet your fellow travelers and talk about the adventure ahead! Day 2
Amman
Walking tour and women's co-op visit with a handicraft workshop
This morning, we will walk around the old city of Amman with our expert local guide. Marvel at the Citadel, The Roman Theatre, and the Jordan Folklore Museum. Explore one of Amman’s oldest neighborhoods, Jabal al-Weibdeh, known for its stunning architecture, art galleries, and handcraft shops. Then we will visit a women’s cooperative where you can learn a local craft practice while sharing lunch together. You’ll have free time in the evening to explore Amman’s markets or sample some local restaurants specializing in Jordanian cuisine. Meals: breakfast, lunch
Day 3
Amman to Petra
Take your first steps into the lost city of Petra
After breakfast, we’ll drive south to explore a town half as old as time -The Red Rose City of Petra. Transport to another era exploring the many caves and tombs of this “lost city”. Walk through ancient Nabatean, one of the modern 7 wonders of the world. Our guide will walk with us to see Qasr Al-Bint or the Royal Tombs. Meals: breakfast Drive time: approx. 3 hours
Day 4

Get ready for a very special day. In the morning, we will meet with the family members of a Bedouin female shepherd as they lead us on a desert hike to High Place of Sacrifice and Al Khubtha mountain. Along the way, we will also stop at a remote section of Petra called the Treasury to get the most Instagrammable shots of this Wonder of the World. Today’s hike is strenuous at times but the secluded mountain scenery makes it worth the effort! We will meet a Bedouin family who will tell us about their lives and serve us a traditional Bedouin meal. Then the female shepherd will walk with us toward Petra herding her flock along the way. Meals: breakfast, lunch
Day 5
wadi rum
Head into the desert today as we drive 2 hours to Wadi Rum. Along the way, we will visit the Disi Women’s Cooperative, whose aim is to revive Bedouin culture through authentic cultural experiences. Depart for sunset, and take jeep tour through the desert! This otherworldly red desert will blow you away with its natural beauty. Rest after a great day at our glamp site under the stars! Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Day 6
wadi rum to dead sea
Wake up early for sunrise in Wadi Rum to catch a truly spectacular array of colors. If you’re not an early riser, sleep in enjoying the silence of the desert. After a leisurely morning at camp, we will drive approximately 3 hours on the Jordan Valley Highway until we reach the Dead Sea. This is the lowest point on earth and the brined waters are well-known for their healing properties. Spend your free afternoon floating in the sea, booking a spa appointment, or applying some healing mud for a full body mask. Meals: breakfast, dinner
Day 7

Relax with a leisurely morning at our Dead Sea resort. If you haven’t had time to book a treatment at the spa or soak in the salty waters, now is the perfect time. We will depart back to Amman in the early afternoon. You’ll have a few hours to walk around Amman on your own before the group’s last night together. Test your skills in the kitchen with a cooking class with at a mother + daughter cooking school. Learn classics like tabbouleh, flat bread, and lentil soup from recipes created many generations ago before sitting down to eat your delicious creations for dinner. We’ll also share a wine tasting from a local winery, a perfect way to end the week together. Meals: breakfast, dinner

Arrival: Fly into Queen Alia International Airport (code: AMM). Airport pickup is included if you arrive any time on Day 1 of the tour, but we recommend arriving before 4:00pm on the tour start date so that you’ll have time to get refreshed before your welcome meeting and dinner that evening.
An airport pickup is not included if you arrive a day or two before the tour begins, but we can arrange one for you at an extra cost.
Departure: Depart from Queen Alia International Airport (code: AMM). You can depart anytime on our tour end date, but we recommend staying for breakfast and departing around check out time (midday).
Departure transfer is not included, but your guide will be happy to help you arrange this.

Most countries, including the USA, are able to visit Jordan with a tourist visa upon arrival. In fact, we recommend getting the visa on arrival because the process is straightforward and fast.
All you need to get a Jordanian visa on arrival is your passport and $40 JOD in cash, which can be withdrawn at the airport in Amman.

Cash in USD and EUR are widely accepted, although USD is preferable over EUR. Credit cards are normally the last preferred or accepted method of payment. We strongly recommend arriving to Lebanon with all the cash you will need in USD or EUR. The best way to withdraw more cash is with a Western Union, not an ATM. Luckily, this tour is very inclusive and you won’t need much spending money. We will help you navigate this before departure, but flexibility and some prior planning is important.

Day 1
WELCOME TO BEIRUT!
Airport pickup & welcome meeting
Welcome to the dynamic city of Beirut! This cosmopolitan city is known for its Parisian-style cafes, inspired art scenes and thrumming nightlife. We suggest flying in by 3pm in order to have time to arrive at the hotel and relax before our welcome meeting at 6pm. We’ll transfer you to our first hotel, where you’ll meet the rest of your group and your local guide. Tonight we’ll celebrate the start of our journey together with an optional dinner!
Day 2
BEIRUT
Beirut city highlights & solo afternoon
Today is dedicated to exploring Beirut. We begin to understand how civilisations impacted Lebanon’s cultural crossroads at the impressive National Museum, then walk from Barakat house along the boundary line diving Muslim and Christian communities during the civil war. Continuing to downtown Beirut, we visit the spectacular Al-Amin mosque (Blue mosque), St George cathedral, and Martyr’s Square before dipping into east Beirut’s artistic neighborhood for an immersive cooking class with local women from varied regions in Lebanon. You are free to rest this afternoon, and to wander the nearby area at your own pace and maybe catch sunset by the sea. Meals included: breakfast, lunch
Day 3
BEIRUT TO DEIR EL QAMAR
Sidon walking tour, farm lunch & Beiteddine Palace tour
Today we head to Sidon (meaning ‘fishery’ in Greek), an ancient Phoenician city layered by the influences of great civilisations. We experience Levantine lifestyle, visit the crusader sea fort of Sidon Castle, wander bustling souks and labyrinthine markets. We stop at the Audi Soap Museum, the beautifully preserved 18th Century bathhouse of Hamman Al-Jadeed, and Saint Nicolas church. In the afternoon we drive to the mountainous district of Chouf for a farm lunch and tour the majestic 19th Century Beiteddine Palace before finishing with a genteel, guided walk at our beautiful village for the night, Deir Al-Qamar. Meals included: breakfast, lunch
Day 4
ZAHLE
Winetasting in Bekaa, taste sweets at a family home & Zahlé walking tour
Weaving through Barouk’s historic cedar trees, we cross the western mountains to reach the fertile, mystic valley of Bekaa – one of the oldest winemaking regions in the world and the seat of Lebanon’s modern wine industry. We sample valley’s varietals at a woman owned boutique winery, and do an easy hike to see breath taking views towards the mountains separating Lebanon from Syria. Coffee and Arabic sweets will follow at an old family house, where we chat with the family and have the chance to support women villagers by buying mouneh (traditionally preserved food). We end off the day with a walk through the old town of Zahlé. Meals included: breakfast, lunch
DAY 5
EHDEN
Visit Baalbek city, the Holy Valley & the Monastery of Qozhaya
Journeying on, we arrive at the roman city of Baalbek which is one of the most celebrated sanctuaries of the ancient world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We tour this astonishing complex with a local guide before travelling toward northern Mount Lebanon, through the Holy Valley of Kadisha, and past the ancient cedar trees of Besharri (both UNESCO heritage sites). We visit a special place for pilgrims both Christian and Muslim alike: the Monastery of Qozhaya. Meals included: breakfast, lunch
Day 6
BATROUN
Join a pottery class, Batroun walking tour & sunset yoga class
Flexing our pottery throwing skills, we join a workshop hosted by women of the nearby Assia village. Pottery is an essential, ancestral craft in Lebanon: Lebanese families cook or preserve food and liquids using pottery pots. After the workshop we’re off to Lebanon’s hippest coastal town surrounded by citrus groves, Batroun. Batroun’s historical sites and beachy atmosphere make it a favourite for international and local visitors alike. We walk through the Old City on a guided tour to see the Phoenician Sea Wall, the Greek Orthodox church, ‘Our Lady of the Sea’ built on Byzantine ruins, the Phoenician castle, and Diaspora house. This afternoon we have time off to enjoy the beach. Kayak or sup if the weather allows or swim in the Mediterranean sea. We draw the day to a close with a seaside sunset yoga class hosted by female instructor. Meals included: breakfast, lunch
Day 7
BATROUN
Belly dancing class, traditional soap making
After getting our limbs moving in the morning with an ocean-side belly dancing class, we continue to Byblos, arguably the oldest city in the world with remains dating back 7000 years and to the Roman, Phoenician and Persian eras. We learn how to make decadently scented soaps with a female expert in traditional soap making and aromatherapy. We have a last meal together and reminisce over the incredible memories made. Meals: breakfast, lunch

FAREWELL FOR NOW

- We will will have an airport transfer waiting for you when arrive on day 1. The transfer will take you from the airport to our group hotel in Beirut.
- If you arrive a day or two early, the airport transfer is not included. Please email us directly if you book flights outside this window so we can assist with arranging a transfer and an early night in the hotel .
- Our tour starts at 6pm, so we recommend that you arrive no later than 3pm on day 1. However, we will pick you up from the airport anytime.
Departure: Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY). You can leave anytime on the last day. Check out is at 10am. Note that the airport is an hour away from our last hotel, maybe longer depending on traffic.

Get ready for a very special day. In the morning, we will meet with the family members of a Bedouin female shepherd as they lead us on a desert hike to High Place of Sacrifice and Al Khubtha mountain. Along the way, we will also stop at a remote section of Petra called the Treasury to get the most Instagrammable shots of this Wonder of the World. Today’s hike is strenuous at times but the secluded mountain scenery makes it worth the effort! We will meet a Bedouin family who will tell us about their lives and serve us a traditional Bedouin meal. Then the female shepherd will walk with us toward Petra herding her flock along the way. Day 5

Head into the desert today as we drive 2 hours to Wadi Rum. Along the way, we will visit the Disi Women’s Cooperative, whose aim is to revive Bedouin culture through authentic cultural experiences. Depart for sunset, and take jeep tour through the desert! This otherworldly red desert will blow you away with its natural beauty. Rest after a great day at our glamp site under the stars! Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Wake up early for sunrise in Wadi Rum to catch a truly spectacular array of colors. If you’re not an early riser, sleep in enjoying the silence of the desert. After a leisurely morning at camp, we will drive approximately 3 hours on the Jordan Valley Highway until we reach the Dead Sea. This is the lowest point on earth and the brined waters are well-known for their healing properties. Spend your free afternoon floating in the sea, booking a spa appointment, or applying some healing mud for a full body mask. Meals: breakfast, dinner

Relax with a leisurely morning at our Dead Sea resort. If you haven’t had time to book a treatment at the spa or soak in the salty waters, now is the perfect time. We will depart back to Amman in the early afternoon. You’ll have a few hours to walk around Amman on your own before the group’s last night together. Test your skills in the kitchen with a cooking class with at a mother + daughter cooking school. Learn classics like tabbouleh, flat bread, and lentil soup from recipes created many generations ago before sitting down to eat your delicious creations for dinner. We’ll also share a wine tasting from a local winery, a perfect way to end the week together. Meals: breakfast, dinner

Flight to Egypt and city food tour.
After breakfast, it’s off the airport to catch our flight to Egypt! Your adventure continues with an airport greeting and our VIP escort. You will be transferred to our beautiful Cairo hotel before heading out to the best introduction to Egypt: a food tour! Here, our expert Egyptologist guide will lead us through favorite local food hangouts, and we’ll get our first taste of Cairo cuisine. Meals: breakfast, dinner.

ATV ride past the pyramids at sunset
After our welcome meeting and breakfast this morning, we’ll listen to stories of ancient Egypt on the short drive to the famous Pyramids of Giza! Learn why these stunning tombs exist, and how they are so well preserved. There’s time to wander solo and absorb the grandeur before we tuck into a traditional Egyptian feast at a beloved SoFe lunch spot. Don’t give into that food coma just yet though, because it’s time to see the Sphinx (and maybe give him a kiss for a photo!). From here, we satisfy our inner adrenaline junkies and hop onto an ATV to watch the sun set behind the pyramids. Your leader will step in to assist with capturing photos that will surely make you the star of every dinner party for the rest of the year. We end the day with a drink at a nearby rooftop restaurant. Flight to Aswan, Philae Temple & solo afternoon
We’ll hop on an early morning flight to Aswan, approximately 2 hours flying time. After landing, we visit Philae Temple located on an island in the middle of the mighty Nile River. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, we’ll wander through the temple learning about women’s roles in ancient Egypt. Before we go, say hello to the many cats hanging out like locals at the cafe (which has excellent lemon mint juice). We check into our beautiful hotel for a free evening. There are many amenities to enjoy at your leisure, including a refreshing pool. Meals: breakfast.

Abu Simbel & float down The Nile on a felucca
Today our small existence impresses upon us as we stand next to the giant carvings at Abu Simbel, which is first on the agenda. Next to the pyramids, it’s arguably one of the most impressive Egyptian sites. It’s not to be missed, and is totally worth the longer distance to visit. Afterwards, we settle in onboard a felucca, and float the day away as we cruise down the Nile river with a delicious lunch and dinner spread generously prepared by Nubian villagers. There’s no better way to watch the sun set than drink in hand, new friends all around and the glimmering Nile waters before you. Meals: breakfast, lunch & dinner | Drive time: 5 hours

Train ride to Luxor, Karnak & Luxor Temples
This morning we set off on a train journey past villages and lush farms on our way to Luxor. Once in Luxor, we take the opportunity to marvel at the second largest temple complex in the world – the awesome Temple of Karnak. The massive engraved columns, towering obelisk and offering table room are highlights of this magnificent temple. Once the sun goes down, the Temple of Luxor lights up beautifully. We’ll do a night walking tour to see some of the most important carvings in ancient Egypt. Meals: breakfast & lunch | Train journey: 3 hours

Valley of the Kings & Hatshepsut Temple
This morning, choose between waking up for sunrise and doing an optional hot air balloon ride (when in Egypt…) or sleeping in and enjoying a more genteel start to the day. We’ll meet up for a tour to Luxor’s best ancient wonders: the Valley of Kings! We’ll see hieroglyphic covered tombs belonging to famous pharaohs. Following the Valley of Kings, we visit the female-focused Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, one of the few female Egyptian rulers. Meals: breakfast.

Flight to Cairo, Egyptian Museum & Khan El Khalili Market
After a short flight back to Cairo, visit the Egyptian Museum packed full of artifacts, mummies, tombs, statues, hieroglyphics, and much more. Before you wander off to explore all the nooks and crannies, our Egyptologist guide will describe fascinating aspects of Egyptian history. For lunch, we recommend one of Egypt’s most beloved dishes – koshary. Bellies full, we visit the Mosque of Ibn Tulun and learn about Islam from a female NGO representative whose mission is to describe the beauty of Islam and how women fit into the religion. She will gladly answer any questions that we may have. Climb the stairs to the minaret to be rewarded with views over Cairo, or simply enjoy the intricate details of this beautiful mosque. We’ll finish the afternoon by exploring the biggest market in Egypt: Khan El Khalili Market. The winding alleyways of the market house souvenirs, gifts and Egyptian food. Meals: breakfast & lunch.

Dahab is a beachy paradise on The Red Sea. It’s the darling seaside escape for both Egyptian and international visitors, but isn’t so built up that it loses any of its charm. The town is small and colorful. Seaside restaurants abound, and make for ideal sunset hangouts and refueling spots in-between dives. On that note, the snorkeling and diving in Dahab is some of the very best- and most affordable- in the world.
How it works: when the Jordan & Egypt Meetup Tour ends, we hop onto a flight to Sharm el-Sheik and arrive in Dahab in time for a welcome lunch and afternoon chill session. The next few days have a range of activities planned, from snorkeling to a 4×4 desert tour and stargazing at a Bedouin camp. There’ll be plenty time to kick back and soak up the glorious Egyptian sun, dive, read or hangout with new friends. Note that this extension starts on the last day of The Egypt Meetup Tour, so adds 4 days, not 5, to your whole trip.

Arrival: Fly into Queen Alia International Airport (code: AMM). Airport pickup is included if you arrive any time on Day 1 of the tour, but we recommend arriving before 4:00pm on the tour start date so that you’ll have time to get refreshed before your welcome meeting and dinner that evening.
An airport pickup is not included if you arrive a day or two before the tour begins, but we can arrange one for you at an extra cost.
Departure: Depart from Cairo International Airport (code: CAI). You can depart anytime on our tour end date, but we recommend staying for breakfast and departing around check out time.
Departure transfer is not included, but your guide will be happy to help you arrange this.

On rare occasions, any domestic flight that we include in this trip may be changed or canceled with little notice. Remember, we cannot control the decisions that airlines make, so sometimes amendments will need to be made to our mode of transportation. Most countries, including the USA, are able to visit Jordan and Egypt with a tourist visa upon arrival. In fact, we recommend getting the visa on arrival because the process is straightforward and fast.
When our group transfers to Egypt, our airport escort will walk you through the entire process. All you need to get an Egyptian visa on arrival is your passport, $25 USD in cash, and your negative COVID test.
If you are not a US passport holder, please check to be sure your country qualifies for a visa upon arrival, but the majority of them do.
New Advice for Canadians entering Egypt after October 1st, 2023:
Change 1: As of 3rd Sep 2023, all Canadian travelers to Egypt will not be eligible to Visa on Arrival in Egypt and are required to apply for pre-entry visa in advance. Evisa is still valid for Canadian travelers until 30 Sep, however, it’s recommended that you obtain a visa from the nearest Egyptian Embassy or consulate prior to your departure.
Change 2: Starting October 1, 2023, Canadian passport holders will not be able to obtain a visa online before travelling to or upon arrival in Egypt. Visitors will be required to obtain a visa from an Egyptian embassy or consulate abroad.
If visitors travel to Egypt on an electronic visa on or after October 1, 2023, their visa will be considered void, and they will be denied boarding and/or entry into Egypt.
Canadian travelers should contact the nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate before travel
