TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

TRAVELER LOVE

"The party at Bran Castle, the Viscri Village tour and lunch with the family, working with women tour guides/families/businesses was the highlight of this trip for me. Daniela was amazing and truly the best tour guide I have had. She was very personable, funny and had such a vast amount of knowledge and love for her country. This was my favorite group of people that I have been in a tour with, we all had similar interests and views on life, the group fit together perfectly."

WELCOME TO Bucharest!

Airport pickup & welcome dinner

Our Romanian adventure begins as you arrive in Bucharest. We will pick you up from the airport, just look for your driver holding a sign with the SoFe Logo and your name. Try to arrive by 3pm for enough time to settle in before we meet for a welcome dinner. The rest of the evening is free to explore the buzzing nightlife or rest from the flight.

Day 2

bucharest

Walking tour of Bucharest, wine tasting, and lunch!

This morning, we dive into the heart of Romania’s vibrant capital, Bucharest. We’ll wander the cobblestone streets of the Old City, where centuries-old architecture meets buzzing café culture, and every corner has a story to tell.

In the afternoon, get ready to eat and sip your way through Bucharest on a food and wine tour that highlights Romania’s rich winemaking tradition. Think bold local wines perfectly paired with savory grilled meats, rustic cheeses, and traditional flavors that showcase the soul of Romanian cuisine.

Tonight, the city is yours! Whether you’re craving live music, lively bars, or a moonlit stroll, Bucharest is ready to show you a good time.

Day 3

Bucharest

Bucharest Bohemian Tour

This one’s a favorite — and for good reason! Today we mix the charm of the city with the flavors of the countryside on a lively adventure through Bucharest’s most eclectic neighborhoods. It’s part history, part architecture, and part culinary exploration.

We’ll wander through districts that echo the elegance of the La Belle Époque era, uncovering hidden gems and local legends along the way. As we explore, we’ll fuel up on traditional dishes crafted with fresh, farm-sourced ingredients that bring the countryside right to your plate.

Meals: breakfast, lots of snacks during food tour

Day 4

Brasov

Iulia Hasdeu and Peleș Castle

Today, we set off for the charming city of Brașov, but not without some epic stops along the way. First, things get a little spooky (in the best way) as we head to Câmpina to explore the haunted Iulia Hașdeu Castle. Built by a grieving father guided by the spirit of his daughter, this place is wrapped in both sorrow and mystery. Legend has it that at night, the sound of a piano echoes through the halls, and a ghostly figure in a white nightgown wanders the grounds searching for daffodils.

Next up: Peleș Castle, a fairytale masterpiece tucked into the foothills of the Bucegi Mountains. With its ornate towers, lavish interiors, and rich royal history, it’s easily one of Romania’s most jaw-dropping castles.

Once we arrive in Brasov, you’ll have some solo time in the evening to explore the town or rest up for our Halloween party tomorrow!

Day 5

Halloween party in Dracula's Castle

Party for Halloween at Bran’s Castle with costumes, makeup, and a Vampire’s feast!

Get ready to step into Bran’s Castle — the iconic medieval fortress perched on a rocky cliff, shrouded in myth and mystery. Often linked to Vlad Țepeș, the infamous figure who inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, this place oozes gothic allure and historic intrigue. Walking its ancient halls, you can almost feel the whispers of the past.

As night falls, prepare for an unforgettable Halloween celebration. Dressed in costume, we’ll roam the castle’s candlelit corridors, uncover hidden corners, and revel in the eerie atmosphere. Then, it’s time for the “Vampire’s Feast” — a party steeped in medieval vibes and spine-tingling fun. It’ll be music, dancing, and a fun night that feels like stepping into another realm!

Meals: breakfast and dinner

Day 6

Brasov and solo day

Brasov walking tour and solo time

After last night’s legendary Halloween bash, we’ll take things at a more leisurely pace today. This morning, we’ll stretch our legs on a guided walking tour of Brașov — a picturesque city where medieval walls, Gothic spires, and cobblestone streets create a fairytale setting straight out of a storybook.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy however you like. Whether you want to cozy up at a café, hunt for souvenirs, or simply wander the charming streets at your own pace, Brașov invites you to unwind and explore on your terms.

Day 7

Sighisoara

Stop in the beautiful Viscri and enjoy a delicious local lunch, plus a spooky night tour in Sighisoara

Today, we journey to the storybook town of Sighișoara, but not before a stop in one of Romania’s most enchanting villages — Viscri. Tucked away in the rolling countryside and part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, Viscri feels like stepping back in time. We’ll explore its crown jewel: the stunning fortified church, a masterpiece of rural architecture that’s stood strong for centuries.

Then, it’s time for a special treat — we’ll visit our friend’s guesthouse for a homemade lunch bursting with local flavors. Fresh ingredients, warm hospitality, and a countryside setting make this meal one to remember.

Later, we’ll venture to the medieval gem, Sighișoara, where history comes to life. Stroll through the narrow streets, and as you make your way to the old city walls and bastions, you’ll be transported to another time. Dive into the history of the evangelical church, located just steps away from the citadel. Explore The Clock Tower and the house where the famous Wallachian king Vlad the Impaler, globally known as Dracula, was born in 1431. Discover Dracula’s humble beginnings and embrace the eerie side of the citadel during our special night tour. For those unafraid of delving into darkness and mystery, this experience promises to be an unforgettable adventure. The details of the night tour are a spooky surprise.

Meals: breakfast, lunch

Day 8

Cluj

Visit a Gypsy community and solo time in Cluj

This morning, our journey takes us south to visit a vibrant Gypsy community. Our host and friend, Clara, will shed light on the challenges Gypsy women face when navigating society. She’ll show us life in her village and share stories, letting us into their world.

After that, we’ll continue to Cluj with the afternoon all yours to enjoy at your leisure.

Day 9

Cluj

Discover the haunted Hoia Baciu Forest and Banffy Castle

Prepare for a a spooky day! Our first stop is at Hoia Baciu Forest, renowned as one of the spookiest woodlands on the planet. The heart of the forest, known as The Clearing, defies scientific explanation, luring Romanian witches, sword-wielding Americans, and even those attempting to cleanse the woods of evil through yoga. Local legends shroud the forest with tales of ghosts, spirits, alien encounters, and eerie occurrences. Stories of people vanishing and returning without memory, or shepherds and flocks disappearing, only add to the mystique.

From here, we journey to Banffy Castle in Bontida, also known as the Electric Castle. This castle, considered one of the most haunted places in Romania, holds an integral place in Transylvanian aristocratic history. The castle’s history spans centuries and holds many paranormal phenomenons.

Meals: breakfast and dinner

Day 10

Farewell from Bucharest

We miss you already!

This morning, enjoy a bit of free time to soak up the last moments of your Romanian adventure — grab a coffee, take a final stroll, or simply relax and reflect with your new friendships. In the afternoon, we’ll catch a flight from Cluj back to Bucharest, where we’ll say our goodbyes. As we part ways, we leave with unforgettable memories, and if you’re anything like us, dreams of where the next adventure will take you.

If you need to stay another night in Bucharest after the tour ends, reach out and we’ll arrange it for you!

Day 1

Welcome to Istanbul!

Welcome meeting

Merhaba! Welcome to Turkey! This women’s only tour kicks off in Istanbul, the continent-straddling metropolis that the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans have previously all called home. We will pick you up at the airport and bring you to the hotel to meet the rest of the group. Your welcome meeting with the guide starts at 6pm at your hotel. Following the meeting, have dinner together to get to know each other before an incredible adventure!

Meals: dinner

Day 2

Istanbul

City tour & water marbling class

Begin your day by exploring the old town of Istanbul. Make your way to Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture that has borne witness to over 1,500 years of Turkish history. After spending some time wandering solo, head to Hippodrome square and listen to the stories of chariots and the monuments decorating the square.

Explore the most celebrated place in Istanbul, Blue Mosque, decorated with over 20,000 blue Turkish tiles.

To conclude the day, we will join a workshop at a female owned gallery and learn the art of water marbling (ebru), which involves painting designs directly on the surface of water in a shallow tray and transferring them onto paper.

Day 3

CAPPADOCIA

Flight to Cappadocia, Goreme Open Air Museum & dinner at women run co-op

This morning we will take a domestic flight to magical Cappadocia. Across millennia rain and wind have sculpted the white volcanic rock into the almost gothic formations we see today, known as tufa. Once we land, we will explore the Goreme Open Air Museum, an outdoor museum with ancient rock-cut churches, chapels, and monasteries adorning Byzantine wall paintings dating to the 13th century.

After we have worked up an appetite, we’ll get to enjoy the local delicacies of Turkish cuisine at a cooperative run only by women to create jobs, opportunity, and independence. After lunch, relax in one of a few feature stays of this Meetup Tour, a luxe cave hotel with stunning rooftop views.

Meals: breakfast and lunch

Day 4

CAPPADOCIA

Optional hot air balloon ride, Soganli Valley & dinner at a family’s home

Early birds catch sunrise views from a hot air balloon ride! Opt in to fly above the rooftops or sit with blankets and a hot coffee watching the sun fill the sky. After breakfast, we’ll visit one of the oldest underground cities, Kaymakli. It’s believed that underground cities in Cappadocia emerged in the 8th and 7th century BCE. Afterwards, we’ll take an easy hike in Soganli Valley and go off the beaten path for a sweet afternoon with the women of the village. Soganli Dolls are rag dolls made by women for their children for over centuries and today they contribute to their economy.

We’ll enjoy what is likely to be a beautiful day outside making ragbags with the experts. Take the rest of the afternoon to relax at the hotel or explore solo before a very special meal.

For dinner we are invited into a family home for a home-cooked traditional Turkish meal.

On the way, we’ll stop in the city of Konya for lunch own your own and to see the mausoleum of Rumi, a Sufi mystic who has established the Mevlevi order. Antalya is a beautiful town with ocean views, great restaurants, and tons of shopping. Take the evening to explore solo or with new friends.

Day 6

Kas

Walking tour & solo time

This morning, we will drive to Kas (which means eyebrow in Turkish) and begin exploring on a walking tour. Now primarily a holiday town, Kas is strewn with the remains of Lycian tombs, iconic, white-washed walls covered with climbing bougainvillea and an ancient theatre where you can watch a spectacular sunset.

The walk is sure to inspire your appetite and your leader will be on hand to show you where to grab a great gozleme (stuffed Turkish flatbread). The rest of the afternoon is free to enjoy this easy-going town. Perhaps sit back with a pomegranate cocktail or check out the local markets.

Day 7

TURQUOISE COAST

Sail and swim in the Mediterranean

Today is a relaxing day floating slowly on calm, turquoise waters. Our sail boat has plenty places to spread out and relax whether you are a sun worshipper or prefer the shade. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can jump off the side into the water or climb down the side to put your feet in.

Our hosts, the family who owns the boat, will prepare a simple and delicious meal (you will be begging for the recipe before we leave!). For the night, we will return to our guesthouse situated right on the water.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 8

Pamukkale

Solo time

After breakfast, we head to Pamukkale, known as the “cotton castle” for its stunning travertine terraces created by thermal water deposits over hundreds of years. Mineral-rich waters have overflowed to create cream-colored stalactites with rumored healing properties for the digestive and circulatory systems.

We’ll also visit Hierapolis, a Roman bath center founded in 190 BC, featuring ancient temples, holy areas, fountains, baths, basilicas, necropolises, and an impressive theater. The rest of the evening is free to enjoy at our thermal spa hotel.

Hatice is woman entrepreneur who started to cook just for her family and now is being one of the most influential women in the region creating opportunities for the local women and publishing her recipes.

Sirince is a charming Greek Orthodox village, where you can taste the local fruit wines, stroll through the cobbled stone streets, and chat with local women selling handmade soups, cream, and ice cream.

This evening we’ll join with locals and experience Turkish cooking traditions firsthand in a convivial atmosphere where you’ll have the opportunity to cook, chat, and create priceless memories.

You’ll be amazed at the city’s exceptional infrastructure, which included public restrooms, a renowned medical institution, a brothel, and Roman baths.

Between our amazing guide and our small group size, we may even be able to see parts of the complex off limits to most travelers. Following the Ephesus tour, we’ll journey on to Ayvalik, and if time permits visit çöp(m)adam. This experimental project in Ayvalık aims to address the issues of women’s employment in Turkey while recycling waste in a creative, aesthetic way.
