WEEKEND AWAY

Self Defense, Confidence & Connection

Running Springs, California

Real confidence starts where your comfort zone ends.

Our new Self-Defense Weekend in Running Springs isn’t just a getaway—it’s an invitation to step into your power, in the woods, with a circle of women who are ready to do the same.

Picture this: crackling campfires, crisp mountain air, belly laughs with future best friends, and the kind of physical and emotional strength that stays with you long after the weekend ends. This isn’t a luxury retreat—it’s adult summer camp with meaning. Wild, brave, a little messy, and exactly what you didn’t know you needed.

This weekend is for the women who are done playing small. It’s for building real confidence, learning skills you should’ve been taught years ago, and creating unforgettable memories with a crew of women who are all in—with you, for you.

Gloria Marcott, founder of Soul Punch

Real-life superhero, Gloria Marcott is a certified badass with decades of experience in law enforcement. She’s trained with SWAT teams, taught self-defense to thousands of women, and somehow still manages to bring warmth, humor, and heart to every single session.

Gloria doesn’t just teach you how to fight—she teaches you how to own your power. She’s the kind of woman who makes you feel safe, seen, and seriously strong… all while cracking a perfectly timed joke.

Amanda Black, founder of The Solo Female Traveler Network & Kindred

Amanda is a master of curating experiences that bring women together in ways that are real, meaningful, and unforgettable. From global adventures to campfire conversations, she’s built a career on helping women step out of their comfort zones and into connection.

Amanda’s superpower? Creating spaces where strangers become instant friends, vulnerability feels easy, and you walk away feeling more like yourself than ever before.

Imagine...

Waking up in a cabin surrounded by towering trees and mountain mist…

Trading stories around a crackling fire, fueling up with hearty, soul-warming meals, breathing in the fresh mountain air, and learning to throw a punch (or five) with women who are ready to own their space.

All set in the wild beauty of Running Springs—where the stars shine brighter and the air feels cleaner. Soak in the quiet, push past your comfort zone, and find freedom in the forest.

Head back feeling fierce, grounded, and full—carrying new skills, new friendships, and a whole new kind of confidence.

Training, Movement, and Connection in the Mountains

Mornings start slow, with coffee in hand and crisp air in your lungs. After a hearty breakfast, we will get into self-defense training—led by expert instructors from Soul Punch who keep things real, approachable, and actually useful. It’s physical, sure, but it’s also about learning to trust your body and take up space.

Between sessions, you’ll have time to recharge—go for a walk, journal under the trees, or just hang out and talk with other women who came here to feel something real, too.

Meals are casual, hearty, and shared. You won’t find a five-course menu, but you will find food that hits the spot, always eaten in good company.

Evenings are about winding down and leaning in. We’ll gather around the fire, play games, swap stories, and maybe get into a few late-night conversations that go deeper than expected.

It’s simple. It’s honest. And it’s the kind of weekend that reminds you just how good it feels to show up fully—as yourself.

Cool mountain mornings give way to golden afternoons, where crackling fires spark real conversations—and real connections.

The weekend plans

All-inclusive, low-pressure, and full of good energy.

This weekend is structured enough to feel intentional—but chill enough that you can show up exactly as you are. We’ve got everything covered: your meals, your cabin, your coffee, your courage. All you have to do is come ready to move, connect, and maybe surprise yourself.

Kindred - Joshua Tree

Day 1

Welcome & "Secret Squirrel"

We kick things off with a warm welcome and a little something we call “Secret Squirrel.” No spoilers, but think of it as a SWAT team-inspired adventure, fine-tuned for us civilians. It’s an empowering, boundary-pushing activity that’ll have you feeling capable and badass right from the start.

We’ll be out in the woods, tapping into our inner strength, and forging connections that feel just as powerful. It’s safe, it’s fun, and it’s the perfect way to dive into a weekend of growth and camaraderie. Get ready to surprise yourself.

Afterward, we’ll ease into the weekend: unpack, settle into your cabin, and gather around for a casual dinner and connection. You’ll meet the group, exhale a little deeper, and maybe find yourself already laughing with someone you just met. It begins.

Day 2

Self Defense, Ropes Course & Bonfire

Morning
Wake up to hot coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and good vibes all around. Then we’re jumping into our self-defense workshop—where you’ll learn legit, real-world moves in a space that’s all about support, not pressure. We’ll warm up, throw a few punches (the fun kind), and leave that session feeling like, “Okay yeah… I can do hard things.”

Afternoon
Refuel with a casual lunch and then it’s time to channel your inner warrior a challenge course. You’ll head into the woods alone… but you won’t stay that way. Along the path, you’ll face real-world barriers designed to stretch you — mentally, emotionally, and physically. From solo reflection checkpoints to weighted dummy drags and team-dependent hurdles, this course will confront the stories you’ve been telling yourself about what you can’t do — and help you rewrite them with fire. Some obstacles you’ll conquer on your own. Some you’ll only overcome with your sisters. All of them are intentionally designed to challenge women of every size, age, background, and fitness level. Because every step is about more than getting to the other side. It’s about realizing you’ve had the power all along — and you’re never walking alone.

Evening
Dinner’s on deck—comfort food, shared plates, and chill conversation. Then we roll right into campfire magic: s’mores, games, and that kind of laughter that makes your cheeks hurt. Whether you’re a Cards Against Humanity queen or more of a deep convo by the fire kind of gal, this is your night to unwind, connect, and soak in the mountain night air.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 3

Paintball, Survivor Skills & Gamenight

Morning
We’re kicking off the day with something you probably didn’t expect when you signed up—paintball. But this isn’t just running around with a marker gun. This is self-defense in motion, taught by the Soul Punch team in a high-energy, low-pressure setting that’s way more fun than gym class ever was.

You’ll learn to move, respond, and stay sharp—all while ducking behind trees and laughing like a maniac. Trust us, it’s empowering as hell. And you’ll leave with more than a few stories to tell.

Afternoon
After lunch, it’s time to get a little wild—in the best way. Our survival skills workshop will teach you practical tools for staying calm and capable when the unexpected hits. From fire-building to mindset training, this is where inner strength meets outdoor know-how. It’s hands-on, confidence-building, and surprisingly fun.

Evening
Dinner rolls in with that perfect end-of-camp energy: warm food, good music, and the vibe of “we really did that.” Then we turn the night loose with game night—but not your average party games. Think mystery, collaboration, surprise twists, and maybe a little chaos (the fun kind).

We’ll wrap it up the way every epic camp night should end—under the stars, wrapped in blankets, swapping stories, and staring up at the sky like we just cracked open the whole universe.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 4

Farewell for now

We’ll start the morning with breakfast, coffee, and a little time to soak in the last bits of mountain magic. There’ll be space for hugs, reflection, and one final moment of connection with the women who now feel like old friends.

Whether you’re heading back to the city or onto your next adventure, you’ll leave with more than just new skills. You’ll carry a new kind of confidence, a few inside jokes, and the kind of glow that only comes from doing something brave and unforgettable.

Check out by late morning—but the energy you’re leaving with? That stays with you.

Meals: breakfast

Who is this for?

This weekend is for any woman who wants to feel more powerful, connected, and confident in her own skin.

You don’t need to be “outdoorsy.” You don’t need to be “in shape.” You don’t need to have any training or experience. You just need to show up—exactly as you are.

Every part of this weekend is designed to meet you where you’re at. The workshops are beginner-friendly, the challenges are designed for everyone, and the entire experience is grounded in support, not pressure.

Whether you’re in your 20s or 70s, nervous or excited, stepping out of your comfort zone or in your element—you belong here. This is about learning to trust your body, your instincts, and the women around you. It’s about showing up, surprising yourself, and walking away feeling like you’ve got this.

Because you do. Just as you are.

Cozy Cabins in The Woods

Stay at Pali Retreats

Think adult summer camp vibes—comfy cabins tucked in the trees, warm showers, and just enough comfort to let you truly relax (without hauling your life in a backpack).

You’ll wake up to the scent of pine, share morning coffee with your cabinmates, and fall asleep feeling safe, grounded, and maybe a little nostalgic for simpler times. These cabins bring us together—with just the right balance of privacy and community to make late-night chats, shared snacks, and fireside bonding feel natural.

No tents. No stress. Just your own cozy corner in the forest, surrounded by women who came here for the same reason you did—to feel braver, freer, and more you.

What Our Travelers Have To Say

Carol showed up to our last Weekend Away a little nervous—but totally ready to say yes to herself. She came solo, not knowing anyone, and left with deep connections. We couldn’t be more inspired by the way she leaned all the way in. Here’s what she had to say.

Alex flew in solo from Peru to join our last Weekend Away—and from the moment she arrived, she brought such warmth and curiosity. She came looking for an adventure, and left with so much more. We’re so honored she was part of it. Here’s what she had to say.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

TRAVELER LOVE

I never thought I’d be someone who joined a group tour—let alone nine. But from my very first SoFe trip, I realized this wasn’t just a tour company; it was a community. Every trip, I’ve met amazing women who start as strangers and end up feeling like lifelong friends. Sure, not every single person clicks, but the vibe is always welcoming, supportive, and just easy. SoFe has completely changed the way I travel, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Almost everyone arrives solo, and 92% of our travelers stay in touch long after the trip ends. It’s not just a tour—it’s a chance to make lifelong friendships in some of the world’s most unforgettable places.

Space to Breathe

We build in solo time, always. Want to wander a market alone or skip a group dinner for some quiet? Go for it. Prefer a travel buddy? There's always someone ready to join you. You do you—with the comfort of community when you want it.

No Forced Single Supplements

Forget the extra fees. Our roommate matching quiz pairs you with a like-minded traveler, or you can upgrade to a private room if you prefer your own space.

Is The Vietnam + Cambodia Tour Right for you?

Things won't be perfectly predictable.

Vietnam + Cambodia are organized chaos—in the best way. Scooters flow like water, things rarely run exactly on time, and plans shift. If flexibility isn’t your thing, this might push your limits.

Cities are chaotic.

Vietnam + Cambodia gets hot, although we are going in the coolest season. It’s loud and sometimes crowded. It smells amazing and strange and strong, sometimes all at once. If you thrive on clean lines and quiet moments, it might feel overwhelming.

Activity Level: Moderate

This trip includes a mix of walking, biking, early starts, and long but rewarding days. You don’t need to be a gym rat, but you should be comfortable cycling on flat land, getting in and out of boats, and walking.

Your Vietnam + Cambodia Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Hanoi
hanoi train town vietnam

Arrival in Hanoi, hotel check-in, welcome dinner

Welcome to Vietnam—where every day begins with the aroma of street food sizzling on corner grills and ends with the hum of lantern-lit alleys.

Upon arrival at Noi Bai Airport, you’ll be greeted with a personalized welcome and guided through the visa process. Once you’ve collected your luggage, your guide and driver will be there to bring you into the heart of Hanoi.

Settle into your hotel, catch your breath, and soak in this vibrant city. Tonight, we gather for our first dinner together at Madame Hien, a French colonial villa near Hoan Kiem Lake. The menu blends classic Vietnamese flavors with refined French touches—think warm spices, fresh herbs, and timeless recipes reimagined.

You might try dishes like green papaya salad with dried beef, Hanoi-style grilled fish with turmeric and dill, or rich beef pho simmered for hours. It’s elegant without being fussy, and every bite is a nod to tradition. It’s a soft landing, a beautiful welcome, and the first shared moment of many.

Meals: dinner

Cyclo ride, Dong Xuan Market, garden cooking class

This afternoon, we explore Hanoi through its food. It starts with a cyclo ride, a slow-moving bicycle taxi that lets you take in the streets up close—past crumbling yellow buildings, tangled wires, and the scent of grilled pork in the air.

At Dong Xuan Market, Hanoi’s oldest, you’ll weave through aisles packed with tropical fruit, herbs still damp from the fields, and food stalls offering up crispy bánh gối, sugarcane juice, or something sizzling and unfamiliar.

Then we trade the noise for quiet at a garden hideaway behind a wooden gate. You’ll be greeted with a cool drink and invited to walk the herb garden, picking lemongrass, Thai basil, and sawtooth coriander for the meal.

The cooking class is hands-on and relaxed. With guidance from a local chef, you’ll prep traditional dishes—maybe green mango salad or caramelized pork—using family recipes passed down through generations.

We’ll gather in the garden to enjoy what we’ve made, surrounded by greenery, cold drinks, and homemade desserts before heading back to the hotel for free evening.

Meals: breakfast and lunch

cà phê sữa đá vietnam

Hoan Kiem Lake, egg coffee, Old Quarter walk, Hoa Lo Prison, train street, local beer

Today we skip the tourist crowds and see Hanoi through a local lens—starting early at Hoan Kiem Lake, where you’ll find the city waking up: tai chi in slow motion, speakers pumping aerobics music, and a quiet buzz of daily life.

We visit Ngoc Son Temple, perched on a small island in the lake, before grabbing a cup of cà phê sữa đá (iced coffee with sweetened milk) or the ultra-local favorite, egg coffee—a creamy, frothy blend that’s better than it sounds.

Winding through the Old Quarter, we pass faded French architecture, flower vendors on bicycles, and tiny storefronts that haven’t changed in decades. Stops include the Hoa Lo Prison, known as the “Hanoi Hilton,” the peaceful Temple of Literature, and B-52 Lake, where war history rests beneath the surface.

For lunch, we sit down to bún chả—grilled pork served with rice noodles, fresh herbs, and dipping sauce—exactly how it’s meant to be eaten.

We end the day with a walk along the train street, where homes sit just inches from the tracks. It’s surreal, photogenic, and still very much lived in. Our last stop is a bia hơi joint, where locals gather on plastic stools for cold beer and chats.

Meals: breakfast and lunch

Morning flight to Da Nang, walking tour of Hoi An, Japanese Bridge, Tan Ky House, lantern-making workshop

After breakfast, we say goodbye to Hanoi and catch a short flight south to Da Nang, where your new guide and driver will be waiting to take you to Hoi An—a beautifully preserved town that once sat at the heart of the spice trade.

In the afternoon, we set out on foot to explore the ancient streets of Hoi An’s Old Town. You’ll walk past mustard-yellow houses, hanging lanterns, and storefronts that have barely changed in generations. With your guide, you’ll visit historic landmarks like the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Tan Ky House, Chua Ong Pagoda, and the Museum of Folk Culture. The Old Town’s architecture blends Japanese, Chinese, and French influences—each building telling a story of migration, trade, and resilience.

At the end of the tour, you’ll learn how to craft your own handmade lantern, using the same techniques that have lit up Hoi An’s streets for centuries. It’s a quiet, creative way to connect with the town’s spirit—and take a little piece of it home with you.

Meals: breakfast

Village bike tour, incense making, rice wine tasting, coracle boat ride, secret cocktail crawl in Hoi An

This morning, we head just outside Hoi An to visit a local family home. Over a glass of cà phê sữa đá, they share their story of preserving the spirit of their neighborhood through quiet, generational care.

Then we hop on bikes and ride through rice fields, stopping to meet the artisans who shape daily life here. Watch incense made by hand, see old and new rice milling methods, and pass fishermen repairing boats by the water. Visit a whale temple, try a sip of rice wine from a backyard still, and meet local weavers working traditional hand looms.

Before heading back, you’ll climb into a round coracle boat and try your hand at traditional fishing. A cold drink and home-cooked lunch await back at the family’s home.

In the evening, we head into Hoi An’s ancient streets for a cocktail tour through hidden bars you’d never find on your own. Led by a local expert, we slip into tucked-away spaces—some over 200 years old—for off-menu drinks crafted with local ingredients and a story behind every sip.

Meals: breakfast and lunch

Eco-Hub visit with Ms. Hanh, organic gardening & sustainability workshop, flight to Ho Chi Minh City

This morning, we visit the Eco-Hub, a community space led by environmental activist Ms. Vu Thi My Hanh, founder of the Green Youth Collective. A passionate voice for sustainable living, Ms. Hanh works with farmers and locals to promote organic gardening, waste reduction, and eco-education in Hoi An.

You’ll tour the grounds, learn how to grow food in small spaces, and get hands-on with natural soap-making and composting techniques that turn everyday waste into usable resources. It’s a thoughtful, practical look at how one woman is building a greener future from the ground up—and inviting others to join her.

After lunch, we check out and head to the airport for our flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arrival, your local guide and driver will meet you and transfer you to the hotel. The rest of the evening is yours to relax or explore at your own pace.

Meals: breakfast

Morning in local park, Chinatown alley tour, hidden bunkers, Central Saigon

Today is all about exploring a side of Ho Chi Minh City that most visitors miss. We start early at a local community park, where the city wakes up with group stretches, badminton matches, and grandmas doing synchronized dance moves to pop music. You’ll grab a cup of iced coffee at a quirky, tucked-away café that locals love.

After a steaming bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup at a neighborhood spot, we dive into the winding back alleys of Chinatown. Here, you’ll find hidden corners layered with history—former Revolutionary Headquarters, secret wartime bunkers, and shops that have been open for generations.

We make our way back to central Saigon on foot, ending the day at a building once filled with apartments and now home to boutiques, art spaces, and coffee shops, each one tucked into what used to be someone’s home. It’s a walk through the past and present of a city that never stops shifting.

Meals: breakfast and lunch

Private speedboat to Cu Chi Tunnels, explore underground, riverside lunch, final dinner in Vietnam

This morning, we trade traffic for water and board a private speedboat along the Saigon River. With the breeze in your hair and the city fading behind you, you’ll cruise toward the Cu Chi Tunnels, arriving well before the crowds.

At the site, your guide will walk you through a maze of underground tunnels used by resistance fighters during the Vietnam War—some barely wide enough to crawl through. You’ll hear stories of survival, strategy, and resilience that bring this hidden world to life.

Afterward, enjoy a peaceful riverside lunch, then return to Saigon by boat. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax or explore before we gather for a farewell dinner—one last shared meal to toast the journey.

Flight to Siem Reap, hotel check-in, Phare Cambodian Circus performance

This morning, we say goodbye to Vietnam and head to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia. After clearing customs, your guide and driver will be waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.

In the evening, you’ll experience something truly special: a performance by Phare Ponleu Selpak, Cambodia’s celebrated circus. But this isn’t the kind of circus you’re used to—there are no animals, no glitter, no gimmicks.

Founded by Cambodian artists who returned from refugee camps with a mission to revive their country’s spirit through the arts, Phare blends acrobatics, theater, music, and movement to tell stories of resilience, survival, and joy. The energy is raw, the talent is remarkable, and the connection to Cambodia’s past and present is deeply moving.

Every show is different, but all are unforgettable.

Meals: breakfast

Angkor Thom temples, jungle temple Ta Prohm, Angkor Wat, sunset at Pre Rup or Srah Srang

Today is dedicated to the ancient heart of Cambodia—the vast and awe-inspiring Angkor Archaeological Park. Spanning over 400 square kilometers, this UNESCO World Heritage Site holds the remains of several Khmer Empire capitals, and with your private guide, you’ll explore its most iconic and atmospheric corners.

We begin at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, where you can opt for a quiet 1km walk along the ancient wall to a hidden temple few visitors see. From there, visit the Bayon Temple, known for its towering stone faces, the grand ruins of Baphuon, and the Terrace of the Elephants and Leper King—once used for royal ceremonies.

After a break for lunch inside the park, continue to the jungle-cloaked ruins of Ta Prohm, where tree roots twist through stone in a scene both eerie and beautiful.

Then comes the crown jewel: Angkor Wat. Carved in the 12th century, this massive temple complex is not only an architectural masterpiece, but a symbol of Cambodia itself. Your guide will help you decode the stories hidden in its walls—mythical battles, celestial dancers, and ancient rituals frozen in stone.

As the sun begins to set, we end the day with a quiet golden view at either Pre Rup Temple or the reflective pools of Srah Srang, known as the “Royal Bath.”

Meals: breakfast and lunch

Village life in Kna Por, local craft visits, Banteay Ampil temple, Tonle Sap sunset boat cruise

We begin the day with a drive into the countryside to Kna Por village, a quiet Khmer community surrounded by rice fields. You’ll walk with your guide through the village paths, meeting families who invite you into their homes and workshops. Watch how rice wine is distilled, how woven mats and traditional brooms are made by hand, and hear what daily life looks like away from the city.

Next, hop into a remork (Cambodian tuk-tuk) for a ride through the surrounding farmland. You’ll pass water buffalo in the fields, kids playing barefoot in the dust, and farmers going about their morning. There’s time to pause, sip a cool drink, and simply take in the view.

Before heading back, we stop at the quiet, partially hidden Banteay Ampil temple—a lesser-known ruin that offers a moment of stillness among the trees. On the way back toward Siem Reap, we stop for a relaxed lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, we head out to Kampong Khleang, a remote stilted village on the edge of Tonle Sap Lake. Depending on the season, the homes rise above floodplains or sit surrounded by water. From here, board a traditional wooden boat and glide past floating houses and fishing boats, with endless photo opportunities as golden light settles on the water.

Crack open a cold local beer or soft drink and soak in your last Cambodian sunset from the boat deck before heading back to Siem Reap for a quiet final evening.

HoiAn Vietnam hotel on women only tour
Allegro, Hoi An

We love Allegro because it hits that sweet spot between comfort and character. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the lantern-filled streets of Hoi An, but feels like a calm, quiet retreat. The rooms are spacious and elegant, and the pool is a dream after a warm day of walking or biking. Plus, the staff treats you like family.

Bach Suites, Saigon

This is one of our favorite places to stay in Ho Chi Minh City because it feels unexpectedly peaceful for such a busy city. We love the minimalist design, super-comfy beds, and rooftop views. It’s close to everything, but far enough from the noise that you’ll actually sleep well.

Anjali by Syphon, Siem Reap

We love Anjali for its soulful vibe and tucked-away feel. The garden is lush and quiet, the rooms have thoughtful local touches, and the whole place is built around sustainability. It’s the kind of hotel where you immediately feel at ease—and after a full day exploring temples, that’s everything. Plus, the pool is beyond stunning.

Your Tanzania Itinerary

Day 1 - A Warm Welcome on the Shores of Lake Duluti
Lake Duluti Tanzania sunset on women only tour of Tanzania

After touching down in Arusha, our team will be there to greet you and transfer you to Serena Arusha, a peaceful retreat nestled on the shores of Lake Duluti. Here, the hustle of travel fades away, replaced by the gentle rustling of trees and the warm Tanzanian breeze.

Take the day to unwind—sip freshly brewed Tanzanian coffee on the veranda, stretch your legs with a stroll through the lush gardens, or simply relax and soak in the moment.

In the evening, we’ll gather for our first group dinner, a chance to meet your fellow travelers over a meal inspired by local flavors, with ingredients harvested fresh from the garden. This is where the adventure truly begins.

Meals: dinner

After breakfast at Serena Arusha, we head into the city to spend the day with the inspiring women of the SASA Foundation, an organization that has been empowering local women since 1996 through training, legal support, and education in areas like business, vocational skills, and maternal health.

We’ll play some games, dive into some fun icebreakers, and share a home-cooked meal to get to know the women of SASA. We’ll hear from the foundation’s founder about the impact of their work and the challenges faced by women in the community.

As part of this cultural exchange, The Solo Female Traveler Network has been invited to lead a workshop for SASA members. Our founder, Amanda, will share her entrepreneurial journey, and as a group, we’ll take part in discussions designed to exchange ideas and insights with these women. It’s a rare opportunity to connect, learn from each other, and gain a deeper understanding of life for women in Tanzania.

This day isn’t about observation—it’s about participation, connection, and shared experiences.

Meals: breakfast and lunch

dinner at Serena Arusha

After an early breakfast, we head to Arusha airstrip for a scenic flight straight into the heart of Serengeti National Park. From the window, you’ll see the landscape shift—rolling hills give way to the vast, golden plains that make this place so legendary.

We land on a remote airstrip, where our safari guides are waiting with rugged Land Cruisers ready to take us on our first game drive en route to Tortilis Serengeti Camp. And just like that, we’re in the wild. As we make our way through the park, there’s no telling what we’ll see first—elephants lumbering through the grass, a tower of giraffes peeking over the treetops, or maybe a lion stretched out in the morning sun.

At camp, we settle in with lunch and some well-earned downtime—take a nap, flip through a book, or just enjoy the fact that you’re surrounded by one of the most incredible landscapes on Earth.

By late afternoon, we’re back on safari, venturing deeper into the Serengeti for an evening game drive. This is when the predators get moving, the golden light hits just right, and the park feels truly alive. As the sun sets, we return to camp for dinner and a relaxed evening around the fire, with nothing but the sounds of the wild in the background.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

The best time to catch the Serengeti at its most alive? Early morning. We set out at dawn for a morning game drive, when the predators are still on the move and the golden light makes everything feel a little more cinematic. Whether it’s a lion finishing off a nighttime hunt or a herd of zebras shaking off the morning chill, this is when the savanna truly comes to life.

Back at camp, we enjoy a hearty breakfast, and the rest of the morning is yours—relax, soak in the scenery, or explore more of the Serengeti’s rich ecosystem.

After lunch, we set off for an extended afternoon game drive, heading deeper into the Seronera Valley, a hotspot for leopards, big cats, and massive herds of herbivores. This is the Serengeti in its full glory, where every turn brings something spectacular.

As the day winds down, we return to camp for dinner and a fireside gathering, where we swap stories under a sky so full of stars, it almost doesn’t seem real.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Another day, another adventure. We spend our final full day in the Central Serengeti, continuing our search for the wildlife that makes this place so legendary. No two game drives are ever the same—maybe today it’s a herd of buffalo kicking up dust as they charge forward, a leopard draped over a tree branch, or a cheetah locked in a high-speed chase across the plains.

After a morning game drive and lunch at camp, we head back out in the afternoon for one last chance to soak in the Serengeti’s untamed beauty. By now, we’ve learned how to spot movement in the grass, listen for alarm calls, and appreciate the quiet, unscripted moments that make this place so special.

As the sun sets on our final night in the park, we return to Tortilis Serengeti Camp for a farewell dinner in the wild, reminiscing about the incredible sightings and unforgettable experiences of the past few days.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

After breakfast at Tortilis Serengeti, we set off for Ngorongoro Crater, taking in the sights of the Serengeti one last time on a scenic drive through the park. Along the way, keep an eye out—wildlife sightings don’t stop just because we’re on the move.

By late morning, we reach the crater rim, where one of the most breathtaking views in Africa unfolds before us. Standing here, looking down into this vast, self-contained ecosystem, it’s easy to see why Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most extraordinary wildlife destinations on Earth.

We descend into the crater floor, home to some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. This is one of the best places to spot the Big Five, alongside flamingos gathered at Lake Magadi and sprawling herds of wildebeest and zebra. A picnic lunch inside the crater keeps us close to the action before we continue our game drive, making the most of this otherworldly setting.

By late afternoon, we ascend from the crater and make our way to Ngorongoro Farm House, a beautiful retreat where we can unwind, enjoy a well-earned dinner, and reflect on an exhilarating day of exploration.

Day 7

From the Savannah to the Sea: Welcome to Zanzibar

After breakfast, we say goodbye to the wild landscapes of the Serengeti and head to the airstrip for our flight to Zanzibar—a stunning contrast to the rugged plains we’ve explored. Upon landing in Stone Town, we check into Tembo Hotel, a charming beachfront retreat steeped in history and Swahili architecture, where the sounds of the ocean blend with the hum of the city.

In the afternoon, we set out on a special guided tour of Stone Town, led by a trailblazing female guide who has carved her own path in an industry traditionally dominated by men. As we weave through winding alleys, historic sites, and bustling markets, we’ll not only discover Zanzibar’s rich cultural heritage but also hear firsthand about the resilience and ambition of local women shaping the future of tourism.

After the tour, the evening is yours—unwind by the waterfront, sip a drink with ocean views, or dive into the lively atmosphere of the Forodhani Night Market, where sizzling seafood and Zanzibari street food make for the perfect end to the day.

Meals: breakfast

Today, we leave Stone Town behind and head to Zanzibar’s northeast coast, where white sand and turquoise waters await. We check in at Zanzibar Sunrise at Bandas, a boutique beachfront retreat, and the rest of the day is yours.

Relax on the beach, swim in the warm Indian Ocean, or unwind at your seafront cottage. If you’re up for something more active, you can join a yoga class, go snorkeling, try watersports, or head out on a dolphin-watching tour.

Whether you spend the day exploring or simply enjoying the ocean breeze, this is your time to recharge before the journey home.

Meals: breakfast

Today is all about enjoying Zanzibar at your own pace. Lounge on the beach, take a dip in the clear blue waters, or set out on a snorkeling excursion to explore the vibrant marine life just offshore.

For a perfect send-off, you might opt for a traditional dhow boat cruise at sunset, sailing along the coast as the sky turns gold. Back at the hotel, fresh seafood and Swahili-inspired cuisine make for a relaxed and delicious way to end the day.

Whether you choose adventure or pure relaxation, this final full day in Zanzibar is yours to enjoy.

Day 10

TRIP DETAILS

Mongolia is vast, with sprawling landscapes which are a huge element of its beauty. We’ll spend some necessary time on the road, traveling through amazing landscapes.

Due to the remote location of The Golden Eagle Festival, hotel options are limited. We stay at the top rated option, but it may not stand up to Western standards of hospitality. A positive attitude goes a long way.

Proof of travel insurance is required before joining day 1 of any Meetup Tour. International flights are not included.

For this Meetup Tour, 50% of your final balance is due by May 20th, 2025. This will be non-refundable. Additionally, this is the same date to transfer or cancel your reservation without incurring any penalties.

This is because hotel options in Mongolia are very limited, so we must settle payments with our hotels early. Some towns only have one reputable hotel, and we’ve managed to reserve our space there. For this reason, this deadline is crucial to securing the best available accommodations for our group.

Sainbainuu! Welcome to Mongolia. Your arrival transfer will meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodations in Ulaanbaatar. We recommend you arrive by 3pm to be sure you are in time for the welcome meeting.

This is a fascinating city where elderly Mongolians in traditional dress mingle alongside the nation’s youth and business elite. If you have time, get out and explore ‘UB’ on your own before meeting your group for a welcome meeting at 6pm.

Please make sure you have your passport, insurance and next of kin information ready to give to your leader at the meeting. After the meeting, join your fellow travelers for an optional dinner at a local restaurant.

Meals: dinner (optional)

Day 2

Ulaanbaatar

Morning city tour to Gandan Monastery and listen to monks morning chanting. Visit Bogd Khaan Palace museum and Zaisan hill

While the mention of Mongolia typically conjures up images of remote, rugged mountain ranges and vast steppes, the capital city of Ulaanbaatar is a thriving metropolis. Explore the world’s coldest capital on a morning tour through the city and surrounding area.

Visit Gandan Khiid, Mongolia’s largest and most important active monastery, whose name means “Great Place of Complete Joy.” Here, you’ll learn about Tibetan Buddhism, the primary religion of Mongolia.

Get a bird’s eye view of the sprawling city from atop Zaisan Hill, before exploring the range of fascinating artifacts — from Bogd Khan’s throne to his stuffed animal collection — at the Winter Palace Museum. In the afternoon, explore the city’s many museums and learn about Mongolia’s turbulent history, including the reign of the feared-but-respected Genghis Khan.

See the Golden Eagle Festival! Dinner with a local kazakh family in the evening

Today, you’ll get to experience the once-in-a-lifetime Golden Eagle Festival! In the morning, set off in your 4WD vehicle to reach the festival site (approximately two hours’ driving time). You’ll spend the entire day at the festival grounds, immersed in traditional Kazakh culture. See events like the eagle and master competition, in which the berkutchi, or eagle hunters, release their eagles from a hilltop to show how the eagle responds to its master’s calling.

Other events include a game in which horse riders compete to grab coins from the ground at full gallop, and a competition to see whose eagle can catch a dummy rabbit or fox within the shortest time. Watch the berkutchi parade, which honors the best-dressed berkutchi, best-looking eagle, and best-decorated horse. In the evening, visit a local Kazakh family for dinner and a small performance.

On rare occasions, any domestic flight that we include in this trip may be changed or canceled with little notice. Remember, we cannot control the decisions that airlines make, so sometimes amendments will need to be made to our mode of transportation. Rest assured that if this happens, we will still get you to your destination. Part of the unique experience of traveling in any form is having the flexibility and grace to embrace detours.

Citizens of Canada will not need a visa for visits up to 30 days and citizens of the USA will not need a visa for visits of up to 90 days. Citizens of other countries should check with the relevant consulates as to whether a visa is required. If a visa is required, you will need to obtain it in advance. There is no visa on arrival in Mongolia at land or air borders.

The itinerary is subject to change due for any reason – weather, unexpected cancellations, impromptu local opportunities, or surprise additions.

All bookings are subject to our terms and conditions.

Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory or you may be refused to join the tour. We require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation.

Here is the link to our favorite Travel Insurance provider for citizens of the USA and Canada. We recommend enrolling in travel insurance before you book your flights, in case you need to make any changes to your flight plans.

We recommend you pack on the lighter side, ensuring that you are able to carry and lift your own luggage and walk with it for short distances or up or down a flight of stairs. Help will be on hand in most locations, but there may be times you need to handle your own luggage, for example in airports and to your hotel rooms.

This morning, embark on a refreshing morning walk along the Campuhan Ridge, offering stunning views of jungles and expansive rice fields. The path leads to Ubud Center, with a delightful stop at a local Balinese compound for a coffee break.

Here, you’ll learn the art of crafting a traditional offering of fresh flowers, discovering its cultural significance from a local guide. Day 3

UBUD

Visit KIM and enjoy free time to explore Ubud Center

Our day starts with a lovely visit KIM Women’s Centre. KIM facilitates female empowerment and gender equality for Balinese women and girls through job skills training and support programs. Most importantly, the women’s centre provides a safe haven for divorced women, who are generally highly stigmatized and ostracized in the community. We’ll have a well-earned lunch followed by free time in Ubud center. Now is also a great time to visit the Monkey Forest and do some shopping!

Meals: breakfast and lunch

Day 4

Blangsinga Waterfall & traditional cooking class

Put your bathing suits on and charge your camera because we will be going to Blangsinga Waterfall, a stunning impromptu photoshoot location and swim spot surrounded by plants and natural stone. In the afternoon, we unlock the secrets of authentic Balinese cooking in a fully equipped community village kitchen. Our friend and incredible cook, Puspa, expertly guides us on how to prepare a traditional meal which we will then enjoy together.

It sits 1300 meters above sea level and is surrounded by cool natural forests, providing a pleasant sightseeing stopover for nature lovers. Enjoy some solo time walking through the village and rice fields.

Day 6

GILI TRAWANGAN

Speed boat transfer, solo beach time on the island!

This morning we have a scenic drive to Padang Bai to board a speedboat over to Gili Trawangan. Depending on the weather conditions we’ll aim to arrive by lunchtime. Once we set foot on sandy shores, the day is yours to explore! Relax by the pool or bar, stretch out over a yoga class, or choose a treatment in the spa. Note that if weather conditions are extreme, fast boat transfers are all cancelled. In this case we may re-route to overnight at Candidasa. Gili Trawangan is a gorgeous, slower paced island. Part of its allure is that there are no motorized vehicles. If you need help carrying luggage, porters are available for a small fee.
On arrival we join our host for a farm visit and home-cooked lunch. In the late afternoon stretch your legs as you explore the nearby village of Bremmem and enjoy a bread making demonstration with local woman.

Canggu has it all from beautiful beaches, posh sea side lounges, great shopping, and stellar restaurants. Sleep in this morning (or go for a surf!) and explore in the afternoon. Your leader will be around to show you her favorite spots, but getting a little lost is always fun.

In the late afternoon, we will visit a local temple for a blessing ceremony with a Balinese priest (mangku) –everyone will receive a blessing. YOUR GUIDE FOR THE TRIP

Kamal has been working in the travel industry from past 10 years. She started her career in tourism as a tour guide at time when it was very rare for women to work in such a profession and hence became one of the first female guides in Delhi.

Komal is very passionate about India and its culture and that’s what she loves about her job too. She gets to introduce people to the real India and its people and change a lot of misconceptions that exist about India. 🙂

There’s a very interesting fact about the diversity of India, it is said India is so diverse that in every 100 kms the dialect, the culture, the taste of food, the lifestyle and even the way chai is made changes, isn’t that fascinating! Her aim is to uplift the local businesses and promote responsible travel in India where we can leave positive footprints wherever we go!

*things happen, so if it’s not Komal, you will have another incredible, experienced, and vetted guide.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

TRAVELER LOVE

“It was great meeting other ladies on the tour who have traveled a lot around the world. Traveling around Japan while getting to know them was amazing and sharing experiences with other females has been a positive change compared to doing these experiences on your own. I loved getting cheap dessert at a nearby convenience store and sharing it late at night with my roommate. There were so many highlights on this trip.”

TRIP DETAILS

Japan is best explored on foot. Make sure your shoes are comfy and that you are fit enough to spend most of each day on your feet.

This trip travels primarily on public transport, as it is so efficient and convenient in Japan. Fast trains are used to move between cities, as well as public buses and metro. In order to make travel easier, we have included luggage transfer (one piece of luggage) between destinations and recommend packing light. This means that for 2 nights of the trip, you will pack an overnight bag while the rest of your luggage is transported separately and safely.

Proof of travel insurance is required before joining day 1 of any Meetup Tour. International flights are not included.

Why Choose SoFe Travel?

Built for Solo Women

Every trip is designed specifically for solo female travelers. That means no awkward third wheels, no feeling like the odd one out—just instant community, shared values, and support from Day One.

Real Connection

Is The Japan Tour Right for you?

Traditional Accommodation

Some accommodations, like the ryokan and monastery, include shared spaces and traditional sleeping arrangements, such as futons on tatami mats and communal onsen baths. While these are part of the cultural experience, travelers who prefer Western-style hotels or lots of privacy may find it outside their comfort zone.

A flexible itinerary

Some of the best moments are the spontaneous ones, so while Japan runs on schedule most of the time, be flexible for impromptu photo booth and vending machine stops.

Activity Level: Moderate

This trip includes a fair amount of walking and time on your feet, from exploring busy markets and temples to strolling through historic streets and gardens. While the pace is comfortable and there’s free time to rest, you should feel comfortable walking several miles a day, sometimes on uneven ground or stairs.

Your Japan Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Tokyo
women traveling solo to Japan in Tokyo walking around

Check in & first taste of Japan

Konnichiwa, and welcome to Japan’s vibrant capital—a city where ancient shrines sit quietly beneath glowing billboards and centuries-old traditions meet cutting-edge tech. Tokyo is one of the most dynamic cities on Earth, and your adventure begins right in the heart of it.

Fly into Narita (NRT) or Haneda (HND), where a pre-booked shared shuttle will whisk you to your hotel in central Tokyo. We recommend arriving by 2 PM to settle in before our first group gathering.

Tonight at 6 PM, we’ll meet for our welcome dinner—your first chance to connect with your travel sisters and dive into Japanese cuisine at a local favorite, handpicked by your guide. It’s your first taste of the journey ahead—and trust us, it’s unforgettable.

Meals: dinner

Tsukiji Market food tour, sushi making class, Shibuya crossing, Meiji Shrine & Harajuku

We start with the hustle and flavor of Tsukiji Market, where narrow aisles overflow with gleaming fish, fragrant broths, and sizzling street snacks. You’ll taste your way through Japan’s culinary roots, sampling staple ingredients and local favorites. After some solo wandering to shop for souvenirs or kitchen treasures, we’ll head to a private kitchen to master the art of sushi-making—and yes, you’ll eat your creations.

Next, we’ll step into a scene straight out of a Tokyo reel: Shibuya Scramble, the world’s busiest pedestrian crossing. Look up—those glowing billboards and sky-high screens? You’re in the middle of it now.

To balance the buzz, we’ll trade neon for nature at the Meiji Shrine. Hidden in a lush forest in the middle of the city, the shrine’s serenity offers a quiet pause—walk beneath the towering torii gate and feel the calm settle in.

We end the day in the ever-iconic Harajuku District, where colorful storefronts, quirky cosplay, and bubble tea cafés line the streets. Your guide will point out the must-sees, but you’ll also have time to wander solo, snack, shop, and people-watch in Tokyo’s most playful neighborhood.

Sensoji Temple, traditional tea ceremony & wagashi making, Yanaka & solo time

After breakfast, we’ll begin the day with a visit to Sensoji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest and most colorful Buddhist temple. Lanterns sway, incense drifts through the air, and market stalls spill into the streets—this is where tradition and energy collide.

Then, we’ll slow the pace in Yanaka, a nostalgic neighborhood where old Tokyo lingers. Known for its quiet spirituality, winding alleys, and love of stray cats, Yanaka is a serene contrast to the city’s modern buzz. Hidden among temples and cemeteries, we’ll find an old-world tea shop where you’ll take part in Sado, the sacred Japanese tea ceremony. You’ll also craft wagashi, delicate seasonal sweets that accompany the matcha.

Afterward, the neighborhood is yours to explore—wander its peaceful streets, browse for cat-themed keepsakes, have your fortune told, or opt into a local sake tasting. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to follow your curiosity and experience Tokyo in your own way.

Meals: breakfast

Train to Izu, visit the local bamboo forest, go for a hike, & soak in an onsen at your hotel

Sayonara, Tokyo. This morning, we trade the city’s electric buzz for the serene rhythms of Japan’s countryside. Hop aboard a high-speed bullet train, where even the stations feel like a cultural experience—a ballet of precision and quiet energy. On a clear day, watch for Mount Fuji rising in the distance, majestic and timeless.

In just two hours, you’ll arrive in Izu, a tranquil hot spring town that invites you to slow down and breathe deep. Your guide will lead a gentle hike through the area’s bamboo forest, where light filters through swaying stalks, and the air smells of moss and mountain breeze. Browse small shops, take in the views, and prepare to soak in the healing waters of a traditional onsen.

Tonight, you’ll check into a traditional Japanese ryokan, where modern comforts meet timeless design. With hot springs on-site and a multi-course feast of regional flavors served right at the hotel, this evening is all about rest, ritual, and deep relaxation.

Bullet train, Kenninji Temple & an afternoon with a maiko

After a beautiful breakfast, we’ll board local transport and settle in for a scenic ride on the shinkansen—Japan’s legendary bullet train. Just like the locals, you can grab an ekiben (a beautifully packed train station bento box) to enjoy for lunch along the way.

Our destination is Kyoto—once Japan’s imperial capital for over a thousand years, and still its spiritual and cultural soul. With over 2,000 temples, shrines, and gardens, this is a city where history whispers from every corner.

We’ll begin with something truly unforgettable: a private encounter with a maiko, a geiko (geisha) in training. She’ll share her graceful artistry through dance, answer your questions about her mysterious and disciplined life, and guide you through one more surprise tradition of her choosing. Next, we’ll visit Kenninji Temple, Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple, where rock gardens and sweeping dragon murals set the tone for reflection.

In the late afternoon/evening, explore the historic shopping streets surrounding Kiyomizudera Temple. Browse for crafts, pause for tea, and soak in the atmosphere of old Kyoto. As the sun sets, you’re free to wander the lantern-lit alleys, where old wooden teahouses glow and Kyoto’s timeless beauty unfolds with every step.

Meals: breakfast

Shrine & Temple hopping & a cooking class

This morning, we begin at the serene Sanju-sangen-do Temple, home to 1,001 golden statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. The stillness of this sacred hall, filled with rows of watching deities, is breathtaking.

In the afternoon, we’ll head to a local woman’s home for a truly special experience—an obanzai cooking class, where you’ll learn the secrets of traditional Kyoto-style home cooking. It’s not just a meal; it’s a taste of everyday life, shared with love.

Lastly – it’s time for one of Japan’s most iconic landmarks: Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its seemingly endless path of scarlet torii gates winding up the forested hillside. It’s a place where travelers for centuries have come to seek blessings—and you’ll walk in their footsteps.

Okunoin Cemetery, guided meditation & overnight at a Buddhist monastery

Today, we journey into the spiritual heart of Japan. A 2.5-hour train ride takes us to Mount Koya, nestled within the Koya-Ryujin Quasi-National Park—one of Japan’s most sacred and atmospheric sites, and our home for the night.

This afternoon, we’ll walk the winding paths of Okunoin Cemetery, Japan’s largest and most otherworldly resting place. Here, ancient moss-covered tombs of emperors and monks stand beside gravestones shaped like rockets, coffee cups, and other curious symbols of modern devotion. It’s surreal, peaceful, and quietly profound—like stepping into another realm.

Tonight, you’ll stay at a shukubo, a traditional Buddhist monastery perched in the forested mountains. Before dinner, we’ll join a meditation session with resident monks, allowing the stillness to settle in. Then, we’ll share a Buddhist shojin ryori meal—a beautifully prepared vegetarian feast that nourishes both body and spirit.

Food tour, solo time & farewell dinner

Begin your day with a choice: join the monks in morning prayers at the monastery for a moment of calm and reflection—or sleep in and savor your last peaceful morning in the mountains. After breakfast, we’ll take a 2.5-hour train ride to Osaka, Japan’s third-largest city and its unofficial culinary capital, where the motto is kuidaore“eat until you drop.”

Arriving just in time for lunch, we’ll head straight to Dotonbori, the city’s most iconic food and entertainment district. On our guided street food tour, you’ll taste your way through sizzling stalls and neon-lit alleys—crunchy karaage, piping hot takoyaki, sweet treats, and savory bites you’ll dream about later.

After a few free hours to explore on your own or do some last-minute shopping, we’ll come together one last time for a farewell dinner—a final feast to celebrate new friendships, unforgettable memories, and the journey we’ve shared through the heart of Japan.
