Arrival in marrakech with airport pickup

Welcome to Morocco! Our driver will meet you at the airport according to your arrival time and bring you to our riad in Marrakech. Check-in for the tour at the first riad is at 3pm. You can relax and unwind from your journey and if you are feeling up to starting your adventure, you can head to Jemaa El Fna to get your first taste of Marrakech while we wait for everyone to arrive. We’ll meet for a welcome dinner to make our introductions and get excited for the days ahead!

A Day with Artists in the Souks of Marrakech

After breakfast, our local city guide will meet us at our riad and show us around Marrakech. Our day of adventure will include visits to the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and the beautiful Koutoubia Mosque. After we have visited these monuments, our guide will escort us into the souks of Marrakech to introduce us to the local artisans who continue to use traditional methods for their handicrafts. The late afternoon and evening are left free for you to explore the Medina and Jemaa El Fna on your own or with new friends. Allow the mesmerising calls to prayer, the jostling of the local merchants or the street performers take you on your own adventure.

Solo day in Marrakech

Today is your day. Spend the day getting lost with your camera in the lanes and alleys, people watching from a cafe, and enjoying a cup of tea with a friendly local. Stick with the group if you prefer wandering through the markets and enjoying a Moroccan meal. Sleep the day away, even (but we don’t recommend it). Whatever you like! Marrakech is a beautiful city perfect for getting a little lost with your camera. You will have already seen the major attractions from our walking tour yesterday, so soak up the local culture and make some new friends – local or not!

Marrakech – Ait BenHaddou – Rose Valley – Dades Valley

Today we will travel through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tichka pass (2260m), the highest pass road in Morocco. It offers panoramic views of the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains and magnificent landscapes. We’ll stop at Ait Benhadou Kasbah, the highlight of the day! The Kasbah is now a protected UNESCO world heritage site and famous for being the location of film sets like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and more. You can climb through the village to the top of the hill where you will be rewarded with breathtaking views.

Afterwards, we follow the road of a thousand Kasbahs, which cuts through the oasis of Skoura. We’ll continue through the Rose Valley into the Dades valley, where we will spend the night. Approx. drive time with breaks: 7 hours

Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

After breakfast we will leave Dades valley for the desert, passing through the Todra Gorge. The Gorge, a magnificent canyon in the High Atlas Mountains, is the highlight of today. We’ll go for a walk on the canyon floor with spectacular cliffs surrounding us on all sides. As we make our way through the palm tree groves we stop to visit an ancient underground system of irrigation called Kheterra. It was used many years ago to provide local farmers with fresh water. Whilst the water has dried up long ago, we can visit the ancient, intricate tunnel systems. 

We continue our drive towards the desert through the town of Erfoud, an area that used to be underwater many millions of years ago, so tons of fossils can be found there. Overnight in Merzouga. Approx. drive time with breaks: 3.5 hours.

Sand Dune 4×4 and night at Luxury Berber Camp

Today is dedicated to discovering the Sahara Desert! We will hop on a 4×4 vehicle and venture out into the famous desert for incredible views and some unforgettable experiences with locals. The nomad families we are going to visit will welcome us with a cup of tea, a good chat, and show us their way of life.Next, we are off to the village, Khamlia, and enjoy a totally different culture of the desert with Gnawa music and folk songs! Next, we are off to the village, Khamlia, and enjoy a totally different culture of the desert with Gnawa music and folk songs!

We continue our drive towards the desert through Erfoud for our camel trek into the beautiful Erg Chebbi Sand Dunes! As the sun begins to set at the horizon, we will ride our camel through the desert towards our home for a magical evening in a Bivouac Camp. As we settle into the camp and relax under a million stars, our guides will prepare a fresh and delicious Berber dinner. After dinner, you can climb to the top of the dunes, gaze up at the stars and even go sand boarding! The desert is pure freedom. In the evening you can choose to sleep in a traditional nomad camel hair tent or outside under the stars.Meals: BREAKFAST, DINNER

Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes

In the morning, as the sun rises over the dunes, you can get your camera ready for some of the most spectacular colors or use the moment to just watch. It is a unique and unforgettable experience. Our camels will wait for us for the trek back to our hotel where we will enjoy a fresh shower and an open-air breakfast at the edge of the desert overlooking the dunes. As we set off for Fez we pass through the Ziz Valley (one of the largest oasis in Africa) and the High Atlas Mountains. We will eat lunch in Midelt and continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains to explore the cedar forest where we will meet the Macaca monkeys! We pass by Azrou, an important handicraft center specializing in cedar woodwork and Ifrane. We will spend the night at a riad. Approx. drive time with breaks: 7 hours. Meals: BREAKFAST

Fes

After breakfast at the Riad, we will meet with our local guide to explore Fes, the oldest city in Morocco. You are welcome to soak up all the history from our tour guide or choose to wander solo to people watch, enjoy the food and views, or whatever! Our visit starts with the Royal Palace gate, the Jewish quarter, the first Mellah ever built in Morocco in the 16th century. After a stroll through town visiting historical and ancient sites, including the famous Al Karaouine University, the oldest in the region, the tanneries, the Attarine museum and Mulay Idriss mausoleum. Fes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen

Today we will drive to Volubilis (Romans ruins) and from there we are off to the blue city Chefchaouen. During the drive today, we will have stunning views of the Rif Mountains or the chance for a nap.  Once we arrive in beautiful Chefchaouen, you have the rest of the day to wander this unique, colorful town. Approx. drive time with stops: 4 hours.

After a late breakfast and some more last gazes at Chefchaouen, we will make our way to Casablanca. We’ll crank up the Moroccan tunes on this beautiful drive and stop for views. Once we get there, we will have some time to explore Casablanca, enjoy our farewell dinner, make sure we have everyone’s contact info and a place to share photos.   Approx. drive time: 5 hours with breaks Meals: BREAKFAST, DINNER

Payment:

Booking will only be confirmed upon receipt of a $500 deposit. The balance is due 30 days before Day 1 of the Meetup Tour.

Cancellations:

  • No refunds on deposits.
  • 90 days or more before Day 1, 50% of full balance (if paid) will be forfeited.
  • 89 days before Day 1 : 100% cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations must be received in writing via email.

General Information:

  • There will be free Wi-Fi at a lot of the establishments we will visit but this is a great opportunity to go on a tech-detox!
  • Personal Safety: It is advisable to follow internationally accepted guidelines with regard to personal safety. These include:
  • Carry only as much cash as is necessary.
  • Leave valuables in the hotel safety deposit facility.
  • Do not walk alone in apparently deserted areas.
