Itinerary

Day 1

WELCOME TO BOGOTA!
Airport pick up, welcome meeting and dinner

You’ll be greeted at the airport by our driver, who will be holding a sign with The Solo Female Traveler Network logo, and taken to our swanky hotel. Located in the Chico neighborhood, it’s just a block from the famous Park 93. We recommend that your flight lands before 3pm. That way, you’ll be able to join our welcome meeting and dinner at El Cielo. Named one of the 50 best restaurants in the world, avant-garde cooking techniques are mixed with traditional methods of Colombian cuisine for an outstanding overall experience. It’s time to celebrate the beginning of an incredible adventure together! Meals: dinner

Day 2

BOGOTÁ
Peace tour, taste local delicacies for lunch & bar hopping

Our theme for today is peace, and this shines through on the walking tour of Bogotá. We’ll witness firsthand how commodities like coffee and coca are forming the foundations for lasting peace in Colombia, and be inspired by stories of perseverance and bravery. Creativity simply bursts at the seams of this city in terms of vibrant colors, food, coffee, and the blend of colonial and modern architecture. Lunch is at Casa Mama Luz, whose award-winning Ajiaco soup made her a Netflix documentary star! This evening we go bar hopping on a beer tour through Bogotá, visiting local pubs and  sampling some of Colombia’s more unique artisanal brews. Meals: breakfast and lunch.

Day 3

BOGOTÁ TO SALENTO
Food tour, flight to Salento and a gunpowder game

Food, glorious food… Send your palate on a sensory adventure on a food tour through Bogota’s historic streets. We visit street food stalls and longstanding bakeries, and take in just as much local cuisine as we do architectural eye candy and cultural context. Every stop dishes up a heaping portion of traditional flavor and ingredients, captivating conversations, and authentic Bogotá life. Later, fit in a quick afternoon siesta on the plane ride to Salento, a region so beautiful that it made the UNESCO heritage list. We’ll check in to our cozy hotel and relax a while before sampling nightlife the Colombian way – with Tejo, and beer! Tejo is a game involving steel discs hurled towards a metal ring rigged with gunpowder – a spectacle not to be missed. Meals: Breakfast and snacks on the street food tour

Day 4

COCORA VALLEY
Jeep Willy adventure & family farm lunch and coffee tasting, solo evening

Today is all about the two things that make this region a travelers’ favorite: unusually tall palm trees and coffee plantations. Jump on Jeep Willys this morning for an off road rumble over the mountains of the scenic Cocora Valley and then stretch your legs on a 2-hour walk along scenic trails. We’ll have lunch in Salento, and visit a coffee farm to learn about the coffee making process on a coffee tour. Meals: breakfast and lunch

Day 5

SALENTO TO MEDELLÍN
Orchid farm visit, lunch and a solo evening in Medellin

Leaving Salento, we drive towards Medellin. We break up the journey with a stop at a beautiful orchid farm called “La Romelia”. This is a family tourism project born from José and Marisa’s love for nature. José and Marisa have dedicated more than half of their lives to the collection, study and conservation of orchids among other plants, committing to the preservation and restoration of the native flora. We’ll do a 2.5 hour nature walk, seeing many bird and flower varietals before visiting Finca la Romelia for a delicious lunch, and continuing our journey onwards to Medellin. Meals: breakfast and lunch.

Day 6

MEDELLÍN
Comuna 13 & lunch with women from Las Berracas

Today we share in stories of Medellín’s troubled past, and its residents’ visions for a brighter future. Once considered one of the world’s most dangerous cities, we’ll see for ourselves its drastic turnaround, and how the many parks, excellent cable car system, and warm locals are testament to the strength of Colombian people. We’ll head to Comuna 13, a hillside favela known for its vivid street murals, electric stairs, and layered history. Lunch is with women from Las Berracas, a local community project that empowers single mothers and domestic violence survivors. The rest of the day is at leisure. Meals: breakfast and lunch

DAY 7

MEDELLÍN TO CARTEGENA
Climb up El Peñol de Guatapė, domestic flight & solo evening

Have you heard of El Peñol de Guatapé? Today we climb up its 654 steps wedged into the crack of the granite inselberg. Surprisingly, it only takes about 15 minutes to reach the top – and the views are sensational. If you’re more of a ‘sip coffee and wave from below’ kind of girl, people watching from the café at the base is a fun activity in itself. After lunch at the waterfront we’ll catch a flight to Cartegena and check into our centrally located hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to do as you wish. Meals: breakfast and lunch

DAY 8

CARTEGENA AND BORA BORA BEACH
Explore the Rosario Islands and celebrate over a farewell dinner

Travel by speedboat for 1 hour today to reach the amazing Bora Bora beach on the Rosario Islands archipelago. What a place to unwind after a busy few days exploring Colombia! Lounge in the sun, sip fruity drinks, say hello to resident toucans and swim in the crystal clear waters. We’ll return to Cartagena for a last evening of wonderful food together, this time at a Colombian Carribean restaurant acclaimed for its artistic plating and inspiring menu. We’ll reminisce over an incredible week and making plans to meet again.
