There is very little to no wifi available, so come prepared and let your boss know you will be disconnected!

Proof of travel insurance is required before joining day 1 of any Meetup Tour. International flights are not included. All SoFe Travelers are required to prove that they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 OR produce a negative test taken at least 72 hours before the start of the Meetup Tour.

Itinerary

Day 1

Welcome to Havana
Airport pickup & luggage hold for early arrivals. Meet your travel companions!

Bienvinidos à Cuba! Your adventure begins in romantic Havana–a city uniquely suspended in time, which invites you to slow down, wander its enchanting streets, and discover endless surprises. We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to our accommodation to meet the rest of the group! We recommend arriving by 3pm. We’ll be staying in a family-owned guesthouse within walking distance of  prime Havana hotspots. If you arrive early, we’ll hold your luggage while you get acquainted with Cuba’s colorful capital city. This evening, we’ll head out for an optional dinner and your first Cuban mojito!

Day 2

HAVANA TO VIÑALES
Highlights of Havana & cooking class in a local’s home

Our local female guide will give us an inside look into Havana’s rich culture and history as we explore this magical city by foot. We’ll hit all the city’s must-see spots, including the cathedral, Plaza de Armas, San Francisco de Asis, Plaza Vieja, and Central Park. You’ll have some time to wander solo and enjoy lunch before we hit the road for a stunning drive to Viñales, the gem of the Cuban countryside. (Don’t worry–we’ll be back to explore Havana in style before the trip is done!) On the way, we will stop at Fusterlandia, a whimsical neighborhood filled with one-of-a-kind mosaics. In Viñales, our guide will show us the historical city center; then, to cap off the day, we’re invited to join a local woman in her home for a Cuban cooking class and delicious dinner! Meals: breakfast and dinner

Day 3

VIÑALES
Coffee tasting, Cuban cigar rolling, & salsa dancing

In the lush valley of Viñales, you’ll be surrounded by picturesque views of mist-covered hills, tobacco fields, and coffee plantations dotted with straw huts. We’ll start the day weaving through local farms and tasting the region’s delicious coffee. Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Cuba without sampling an iconic Cuban cigar! We’ll meet with a tobacco farmer to learn how they’re made and you’ll even have a chance to roll one of your own. Take the early afternoon to explore solo, then meet your guide for a Cuban cocktail class and intro to salsa dancing! For dinner, we’re invited to a local’s home for an organic, farm to table meal. Meals: breakfast and dinner

Day 4

BAY OF PIGS TO CIENFUEGOS
White sand beaches, snorkelling in a seaside paradise & solo time

Time for a road trip with your new travel friends! The first stop is the Bay of Pigs. You may know this region for its notorious political history, but did you know it’s also home to white sand beaches, shimmering blue waters, and world-class snorkeling? Here, we’ll get a brief history lesson from our guide, go for a swim, and snorkel in the colorful reef. After we have our fill of the sun and sand, we’ll hop back in the van and visit the Playa Girón Museum before our last stretch to Cienfuegos, the “Pearl of the South.” Cienfuegos is a beautiful seaside town known for its stunning French-inspired architecture, leisurely pace, and friendly locals. We’ll stretch our legs with a casual walking tour to take in the stunning ocean views and iconic Palacio del Valle. Enjoy some solo exploration or find dinner with the group. There are beautiful cigar bars on the water, a chocolate and coffee cafe, and some live music spots nearby for you to explore! Meals: breakfast and lunch | Drive time: 6 hours

CIENFUEGOS TO TRINIDAD
Culture & history in colorful Trinidad & solo evening

After a short drive this morning, we’ll arrive in the colorful UNESCO World Heritage town of Trinidad–a tranquil town nestled in the mountains, where street art mingles with colonial architecture. Our guide will walk us down the cobblestone streets and share the history of this enchanting city. After lunch, we will visit two of Trinidad’s iconic museums; discover some of the region’s unique culture at an Afro-Cuban temple; and finish the day with a refreshing cocktail. This evening, you’ll have free time to join the friendly locals in the Plaza Mayor for a chat, leisurely cigar, and maybe even a game of dominoes. There’s also an underground cave bar for late-night dancing! Meals: breakfast and lunch

Trinidad offers the perfect mix of city, beach, and lush mountain scenery, and today you’ll get to enjoy all three! First, we’ll embark on an easy, but extremely rewarding hike to Salto de Javira, where you can take a refreshing dip at the base of a waterfall surrounded by cliffs. Then, relax in the soft white sand and brilliant turquoise waters of Playa Ancon. This evening, you’re free to explore on your own or with your travel companions. Trinidad’s colorful, palm-lined streets are a photographer’s dream! Meals: breakfast and lunch

Day 7

SANTA CLARA TO HAVANA
Che Guevara memorial, classic cars, & Revolution Square

We will journey back to Havana today with a stop in Santa Clara to learn about Che Guevara on a quick walking tour. Once we arrive in Havana, get your camera ready! We’re stepping into colorful classic convertibles to cruise along the Malecón – Havana’s stunning coastal drive – and visit the famous Revolution Square. The evening is free to explore the vibrant food and live music of Cuba’s capital. Meals: breakfast and lunch | Drive time: approx. 4 hours

Day 8

HAVANA
Afro-Cuban culture, artist home visit, & rumba performance

We have an exciting last full day together in Cuba! Today, we’ll be exploring an essential piece of Cuba’s identity: its Afro-Cuban culture. Cuba is heavily influenced by a variety of religions, languages, music, art, and cuisine from African countries. We’ll be invited into an artist’s home for a drink and a chat, followed by a vibrant rumba dance performance. Finally, we take a 10-minute ferry excursion to meet up with ReglaSOUL, a local organization encouraging holistic health and wellness for Cubans of African descent. This evening, we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner with the group and recount our favorite memories of magical Cuba! Meals: breakfast and dinner

Day 9

Hand-picked Accommodation

It’s extra important to support locally owned businesses in Cuba, where small businesses and non-government owned properties are not typical. Many of the accommodations are called Casa Particulares, which are people’s homes that they open up for guests. Each Casa or Casita is different.

We think this is one of the most special parts of our Meetup Tour in Cuba. These homestay-like experiences make for the best meals, unparalleled hospitality, and an inside look at Cuban culture. The best part of the experience are the laughs over a glass of rum, the morning conversations with locally sourced coffee, and dancing on the porch until the early hours of the morning. Since we aren’t staying at hotels, people’s homes often don’t have a website or even a proper name. Rest assured, our guides know the owners very well. We have been working with these guest houses for many years. You’re in good hands. Here are photos from our collection of favorite Casitas and Casa Particulares to give you a sense of the accommodation you can expect while traveling in Cuba.

BEST TRIP OF MY LIFE. NO, SERIOUSLY.

    Cuba Female Network Tour

“As an American, Cuba has always been a place that’s intrigued me, but hasn’t been too accessible due to political reasons. The Cuba Meet-Up Tour made the mysterious island open to discovery; not just spending the day in Havana on a cruise ship, but actually immersing into the country and it’s culture.” – Jordynn H
